and don't forget in the body trade if the insurance adjuster stops in the shop and sees you didn't do something according to the estimate your *** is grass. like when you figure out how to do things without pulling the car all apart they will dock you hours. I remember when a journeyman was when you could do things faster than what the book said and was able to make a decent wage. Not now, or I remember when replacing a windshield you could make good money doing it but not now. I remember when doing paintless dent repair I made good money but now they think everything should be paintless dent repair and you have to fight the insurance company because the paint cracked trying to save a dent. Or the farmers truck comes in full of mud and disgusting and you spend an hour cleaning it so you can work on it and don't get paid for that.
Sorry guys burnt out on the whole flat rate deal.
And sometimes you wait at the parts counter for what seems like ages. I laughed at some of the trim jobs only paid .2 or .3. Cripes it took that long to get the car in your stall and then wait for the parts. Then they wonder why guys leave the trade. That's when I would punch off the work order and then punch back on and make up some **** and bull story to help cover your time. Like I said.... you make money with your pencil. You had to so you could make a living.
