Roller Rockerarms Slant 6

-
I purchased a set from Rocker Arms Unlimited. Haven't started the engine yet.

Intake and Carbs came from Clifford, carbs are 2 Barrel Webers.
I am wondering if you had any custom work on the heads, any specifics, and if you upgraded the cam? Also, are you using an automatic transmission? I am wondering about kick down linkage specifics. Final thoughts, will this be driven on the street?

I am exploring options here and I did see on another forum where a slant 6 was equipped with a Holley Sniper fuel injector kit. I keep thinking, is it possible to install the Torqstorm Supercharger on top of a Holley Sniper?

So here is what I am thinking, Holley Sniper attached to an Aussiespeed Hurricane intake with a Torqstorm Supercharger and a mild Street performance cam, Clifford headers with interior and exterior ceramic coating. A lot of head work, and plenty of tires. And, a 3: 55 rear end ratio.

I believe they cost about $1000

Yup. That's about the going rate. I say about, because Gary makes each set to fit your particular engine. As I said in my earlier post, they are very nice and worth every penny. I just don't have enough pennies to plunk down all at once, so I am going a different route.

What do roller rocker get you in a slant?

Almost non existent valve stem and valve guide wear, just like any other application. That's why I am going with the modified Buick straight eight rockers. Already talked to Gary about it. As suspected, he's already done some and they do work. He wants to rework not only the shaft bore, but also the adjuster screw bore. I'm going to let him rework the shaft bore, but I am not going as far as reworking the adjuster screw hole. I gotta draw the line somewhere with a budget.

Wow. That is very cool for the slant guys. I always wondered if such a thing existed.

What about a solid roller cam and lifters?? That’d be supreme.

Those sure look nice but I'm not sure how much of a gain that they have. A couple of guys I used to race slant's with gave me mixed reviews on them. One claimed it was a gain of two tenths. The other claimed it was zero gain on his particular engine and said to save my money.

The 2 tenth gain was on the faster engine. 7.70's in the 1/8 mile. The zero gain was running in the lower 8 second range. It may just be all in the combination like most things.

There essentially IS no "gain" just like any other roller rocker arm. If you read post #17, you see where I mentioned "about" their only benefit. But, that's a big benefit, IMO. Valve guides and stems that virtually last forever. There have been many dyno experiments that show the benefits in power from roller rockers is either very little or even non existent in some cases, so if you're looking for extra power "that ain't it".

The thing with aftermarket rockers over stock rockers are; stiffer & lighter rocker bodies, accurate and increase ratios, reduced friction & adjustability with longer life if there under a ton of stress.

I have run roller lifters & roller tip aluminium rocker arms on a SL6, with little to no improvement in performance.

The bottom-line, you are better off spending your time & money on other types of engine or chassis up-grades.
Just my 2 cents...

That's my opinion as well. The best money you can spend on a slant 6 is the head.

See there’s a small market for specialty items like these. Myself, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy em because I like the benefits that Rumblefish pointed out. And no one else has them. Roller rockers, a solid roller cam, and a gear drive in a slant 6 would just be superb. I’d build one if I still had my slant in my 70 Dart.
