Anyway, new white paint (car rolled off the line in 67 as white..), bumpers and grille painted, hood and decklid vinyl wrapped, new black 17 and 18 inch wheels, twin scoops, and black out LED headlights.. just finished 95% assembly tonight.. ran to Walmart parking lot for picture lighting.. :steering:

Prepping my 'cuda for the D4B intake... That does NOT have provisions for the Coil like the OEM intake manifolds ... Never like to drill holes in my 'cuda if I can find another way... So, I used my 'cudas " Heater Delete " plate and it's already there Bolts... By making a bracket, to witch I bolted the coil to... Simple, yeah... But took this Old guy a few hours ... ( Sometimes I hate being so fussy )
I do like how it cleaned up the space around the Distributer... Should have done this years ago !!!

Spent the last few evenings installing a new radiator. The tabs for the shroud screws need a little dremel work done to them (dremel needs to be borrowed from work).

Put the dizzy back in with new pickup (gapped it), cleaned up the rust/oxidization in it...all nice and clean now. Running the no vac billet MSD dizzy with MSD 6 box.
-put new Taylor 8 mm plug wires on (cyl 5 & 7 wires cooked a bit and were arcing)
-Hedder wrap on tube #3 and plug wire boot protectors put on 5 & 7
-New cap and rotor and coil
-New plugs about 3 weeks ago

Still ran like an old farm truck, poor throttle sharpness response (can tell a cylinder isn't firing or something to that effect). Getting some "rattling" from valve train now on acceleration.....or sounds like it.
-Pulled plugs and cyl #2 plug is like new, can tell that cylinder is not combusting...all other plugs have color.... brown with slight white, so maybe a bit leanish. (see pic)
-Test all cylinders to make sure they are getting spark with timing light....all are.

Went to do a compression test on #2, but my comp. tester is a little messed up.....lol....will have to get a new one or fix this one.
Will have to pull the valve cover and see if all rockers, etc are working fine, but I suspect that a valve or something is fuxored, due to the rattle I hear from that side.
Will have to wait until Tues, as work gets in the way now.

With #2 showing signs of no combustion and that rattle now......probably suspecting a stuck valve, burnt valve, or ?????
Anyone with more experience, have any preliminary outlook????? I know it will just be a guess until I can crack open the valve cover :mad:

Made a plate to over the hole in the upper cowl to cover the hole left by removing the heater . Prepped car for the T.T.I. 3" exhaust system . Sent order in on May 5 , received order on May 10th . So far no response . I'm gonna miss the nostalgia show @ N.E.D. if it doesn't get here by May 22 .
 
Had great day. After church, put the engine in my 72 Challenger. Wife helped, and no problems, no pinched fingers, no cuss words, and most important no hurt feelings. Got trans crossmember in so everything secure. As usual I have misplaced a bolt for motor mount. Had it when started. Now it's beer thirty.
 
Finished the RH quarter work. Still a couple dents to work out, and some old "puller" holes that were just bondo'd over to weld up but it's mostly done. Stripped the old epoxy off the door and 1/2 the roof. Next step is a small patch on the door, and then into the engine bay which needs some lovin'...

Came to life last night at 7:33 Arizona time... But I was Dead Tired at that point, so I shut it down after hearing the amazing smooth idle... Hope to tweak today... And of course a Test Drive...
My Arms still hurt... But there is a Smile !!!

Nicely done.

Any chance the 80s-90s corrugated wire tubing going away? That engine bay is so pretty to have that cheap stuff (imo) on there. Please take No offense. That manifold is tits too.

No offense taken... It's just I like access to my wires without unwrapping sticky tape... I also Only use the NAPA Split Poly Loom... Not the CHEAP China stuff... But I understand you completely ...

That’s understandable. The engine harness wire wrap stuff from Painless Performance looks nice and would allow access to wires. Looks clean. Little spendy for a complete kit. Thinking of using it when I wire my 68’ swept.

How do you figure its "80s-90s"? You can still buy it anywhere 30-40 years later. What is the more "modern" replacement for it? The fabric stuff Painless sells looks like it comes from the '30s. It would look good on a 1929 Ford Model A! (no offense).

I figure 80-90s when I look at OLDER restorations from that time period. Ive used it before and it’s tough to make it look really good. The painless stuff (or similar) looks better imo. More like today’s modern harnesses. It’s an improvement over the 30’s stuff which doesn’t allow as easy access to the wires. Uncoil the loom wrap anywhere you want basically. It’s a matter of taste and opinion. Everyone has their reasons as clif stated in his post.


I bet it does look good on 30s cars. Especially since you can custom order weave patterns and colors.
 
Ordered a smaller alternator pulley for my Powermaster 7018 alternator. The original 35 amp one died a while back, and this looks great!
The smaller Powermaster pulley is p/n 111.

I did the alternator install over the weekend.
I also did a little paranoia wiring upgrading as well. Made a 6 gauge charge wire, and a new 12 gauge wire to the regulator. I tried to get the colors the to match those in the harness... They are not all prettified and bound together yet. Also, the ground wire is a horrid temporary setup, which I will fix, probably this weekend.
After I put these Trans-Dapt alternator brackets on, I didn't like how they looked, so I ordered a March Performance set, that will go on when I do the pulley swap.

In this picture, you can see the shitty 50 year old wires, not the new ones I made.

I bought a Milwaukee 8975-6 heat gun for this job for about $75 or so. Made in China. I was PISSED when I saw that.
I will get more pics and more video up this weekend, hopefully with the new pulley installed at the same time, AND the new alternator bracket.
I'll post up a complete list of tools and parts used in this job when I finish the job.

Buddy Brian stopped by last night to help me hang the fenders back on, carefully so as to not gouge the paint on the doors. Need to go around now and line everything up so things fit proper and the body lines line up well.
