Trying to figure out why my Duster was driving so hard left this past weekend at Norwalk. 6.07 clicking the 60 foot timers with the rear tires. Made a shock adjustment and ran 6.06 with a 1.26 sixty foot still driving hard left. 2nd round same thing so I got out of it. Checked the rear slick circumference knowing they were right when I put them on last year and they checked out under 1/16 inch difference so they were good. Talking to a Racing friend that taught chassis tuning at Wyotech he said throw your current weight in the drivers seat and check your ladderbar preload. I reminded him how fat I was and he laughed. Well I almost scraped these cracked W2 heads but can’t bring myself to do it. Well they are 51 pounds each so another 150 pounds or so I should be close. It’s gonna be crowded in there.
 
I’ll give double scrap value and pay for the ride when you decide that they are really scrap. Got access to victor powder flow welding...

Did they have dirt on them? Carbon build-up? Why scrape them?

They both cracked out by the W2 under the headers. I heard they were prone to doing that so I stuck with the 3/8 2.02 intake valves. They flowed 260cfm@.450 then fell on there face out of the box. I did some quick port work and got them over 300 cfm and quit because I only had a .520 Racer Brown cam. It ran 9.80’s on pump gas BP93 on my 408.
 
We usually scale our dirt cars every week.... I've been saving up some old Ford flathead heads to use in the seat but it will still take another $200 worth of lead to mimic my fat posterior.

I have looked at and thought about buying scales many times over the 45 years I have been racing but never have. I am not a “tool borrower” either so I have never scaled a car. I’ve never really had an issue setting up my cars without them but it sure would be nice to have a set.

All you need is some steel and four bathroom scales.... they are called Ruggles scales. used by pilots to balance their aircraft when loaded.

Any specs on this combo that ran 9.80, i have a 408 W2 in my barracuda with unported heads that i would like to make a bit quicker.

Slightly ported W2 Econo heads 1.6 in 1.5 ex rockers
Ported Victor intake 750 double pump
Holley BP 93 pump gas
.520 Racer Brown cam speced to my flow numbers
Diamond .030 flat top pistons (10.8 comp)
K1 4 inch stroke crank, 6.123 Chevy rod
1 7/8 Hedmen headers
Powerglide 1.76 gear 5600 stall convertor
4.88 Dana 14-32 tire
2700-2800 pound car

Most guys don’t use enough stall speed with these engines and shift them way to high.
 
Where are you shifting ? I’m putting a 410 together with w2 race closed chamber heads. I’ll be using a 5500 stall. Thinking 7400. To high or to low. 640 lift cam.

Just remember 7400 is a lot harder on it than 6800 is so test to see if it’s worth it. It may go faster, or is may go slower. My 422 with a .650 solid lifter cam is going on 4 hard years and I had planned a winter rebuild that didn’t happen. The fastest that engine ever went was a 5.98 last October. To take it a little easier on it I changed my shift chip from 7000 rpm to 6700 and in way worse air it ran 6.06@111mph into a headwind
 
Seems like the lower rpm I shift the 417/W2, the slower the car goes. I have to shift somewhere close to 7K for optimal ET.

Hey Garrett, I have a head that could use some Victor powder flow welding.a w2 has a crack in the intake port.never heard of the process. Who/ where and how do I get it done.
 
Here is a video link, it's a modification of a standard victor Oxy/Acetylene cutting and brazing torch that feeds alloyed powdered cast iron. The iron powder is fairly expensive but it's still oftentimes cheaper to use for repair than replace whole castings.
