6.1 Hemi in a ‘69 Barracuda

Why not just start to disect the 318 for obvious signs of failure?? Doesnt cost much lol but i hear ya. Decisions decisions

Doesn’t cost much, but my time these days is extremely limited. So I feel like tinkering with the 318 is a waste of time when I know the 6.1 will have it’s home there eventually so I’d rather focus on that instead.

I hear that. Ill check with my dad today. Onthat fender.
Time is more precious that gold currently lol

For what its worth, when I bought the cuda, I got it safety inspected, and then tried to tune up the 318. It was tired and the transmission was too. I drove it for a year or so, but was not happy with the performance or reliability. I finally decided to pull the engine and trans and get rid of them, to force me to start working on the replacement.

I now have all the big parts to get things rolling. 6.1, A518/46RH, and an 8.8 disk brake 3.73 gear from an explorer. This should be a good solid setup.

Got into tearing the interior out and man is this car solid! Well at least for me. If you followed my Dart build, you’d understand my excitement to find something prelactically rust free. The trunk pan will need a little work but the floor pan is practically perfect!

To be honest, I didn’t know what the proper method of removing the console was so I figured I’d do some research before I go breaking something. I’m sure a lot of you have done it so what’s the process?

Loosen hex set screw at top of shifter and unscrew detent button. Two screws under carpet in front L & R sides. Two more in under console lid in storage area. Should have a light for shift pattern.

I’m hoping to keep this build under $10K. For all the parts I have including the car currently, I’m $6400 in it now. With the trans rebuild and rear end work, converter, driveshaft, sun frame connectors, any worn out front end parts, etc, it will start adding up quick. But I think that if I don’t go too crazy, it should be achievable.

I got a beer says ya don't squeeze in under 10! On personal note I hope you do and I will pay up! I always seem to underestimate mine.

It will be extremely tough. I have about 3 times more than I ever dreamed of spending on my other build! Way underestimated that project.

Hah! Totally understand 3x! My wife calls it JB math when I explain what I am going to spend, she usually adds in a touch of dripping sarcasm attached for no extra fees! Followed by an eye roll and a shoulder shrug. I have found jewelry to be an effective way to buy new parts!

Yup. And now I’m remembering, I still need headers, motor mounts, flex plate, and the list goes on. Maybe this will be a $15K build LMAO!

Unfortunately, the Gen 3 Hemi Swap can add up in a big hurry. Are you doing your own fab for the trans install? If not, definitely 15k, lol! Great car, good luck with your project!

Yep planning on doing most of the fab work. I’ve done a 200-4R swap and this swap should be easier than that one.
