6.1 Hemi in a ‘69 Barracuda

-
Run the Jeep srt headers and save your self a bunch of money. look at the build that 408 scamp did on here. we are identical builds I just spent a bunch on tti headers and he didn't. also if you are looking for a truck front motor cover for timing chain, this moves the alternator to the top I have two extra. I will sell you one really cheap. Good Luck and its really not that bad of a swap just takes time and thought.

Nay, make it a matching brother to ur dart .

Oh hell no! I’d be living in a ditch somewhere lol. I’ll own this one eventually and it’s definitely almost a brother to my Dart. But a lot nicer.

Thank you sir! That’s the kind of info I need!

You don’t happen to have a link to a build thread or a part number for the headers do you?

Forgive my ignorance as I am new to the early A bodies but is the car pictured. The drop dead sexy red one a 68 S?

Forgive my ignorance as I am new to the early A body thing but is the drop dead sexy red Barracuda pictured above a 68 S? Zman ruined me at a show last week in Omaha and I now appear to be lusting after 68 fastbacks. What is difference between 68/69? Round side markers dictate 68? Again apologies for my lack of knowledge.

Hood, grill, taillights.
67/68 hood and grilles interchangeable
Tail lights different all three years
67 no side marker or passenger mirror
Backup lights different
67 steering column
Probably a few more
Door locks in different locations

So...... other than that they are the same right? Hah! Sincere thanks. All my knowledge is on 70 and older Cudas. And just now learning about Demons and Dusters. I had never really truly sat down and looked at early A bodies until Omaha show. Zman ruined me with his.

Yes it is a true Formula S 340 car. But has undergone some surgery to be built as a street replica of the super stock cars. So it has a built Hemi in it that has Indy heads and a mild-ish cam, fiberglass hood and fenders, etc. Its been in a Mopar Action magazine and won best paint at Mopar Nationals the year it was taken.

Other thing about the ‘69 cars is that the nose has a bump in the center whereas the ‘67 and ‘68 cars are flat across the nose. I don’t particularly care for the bump myself and I think that’s why the ‘68’s are more sought after.

Here’s some video of me beating up on it a little

Thanks for the thrash video! My Cuda is set up for track only. I have just started to make it more street friendly. I put head lights in it this winter! I noticed you had a mirror, I sure wish I had kept a mirror! I am now contemplating pulling out spooled 433 rear end for a more street type unit. You have confirmed my suspicions I like the 68s better than 69s. I think the non bulged hood is the key. I really liked your super stock version.
Thanks again.

I run a spooled 4.56 in my Dart and it’s mostly street driven. Yeah it don’t turn as good as it would with a sure grip but it doesn’t bother me at all. But I don’t drive in the rain either.

Omg how the hell are you going to keep it on the road. Want to see what it does et when you get it out

It’s just a stock 6.1 so it’s not going to be anything crazy. Maybe run high 11’s. It won’t be as powerful or as fast as my small block dart but it should be enjoyable to drive.

Really. ...id think it would be quicker than the dart. I did tell my girl that you would do an 11 off the bat. I was on the money lol. Prob do quicker with some tuning.

G3 6.1 69 Barracuda Fastback. Nice!
I refer back to Realwing's build often. Saw it at Carlisle a couple years ago, Awsome build.
Here is the link to our Father Son project thread.
G3 Hemi 69 Barracuda Fastback Father Son Project
It's a 6.1 also.

Learning as I go but happy to share when I can.
Lots of photo documentation in our Google Photo Album

My Dart has been 10.40’s. I don’t expect the Barracuda will be close to that. If it 60’ well, yeah probably a mid 11 sec car I would think. Maybe it will surprise me who knows!

So does the lower location of the alternator interfere, hence moving it to the top?

It is very freaking close to the framerail. But, a miss is a miss. Lol! If you want THE absolute ease in serviceability, then the truck cover offers that. I personally like the look of only the engine when you open the hood.

Nothing much to see. Just pulling parts.

Was ready to order a set of Schumacher mounts through Mancini. For some reason I couldn’t add the mounts to my cart. So I called them up and sure enough, backordered. So I ask how long they’ve been out and he says months with no idea when they’ll get new mounts! Ugh! So I hit up Schumacher and he said that he will be at least 4 more weeks before they could get another lot of them made. Talk about hurry up and wait! I know, ya’ll are gonna say why not TTi? The reason is simply because I like the design of the Schumacher mounts over the TTi. It’s a more of a spool mount design like what is on my Dart with the HDK front end and motor mounts and I really like it. But the TTi mounts with some Poly Locs would probably do the same job. Just gotta mod the rubber mounts to make it fit as I understand.

Did you Try TTi? They sell Schumacher Spool Mounts too.
Biscuit or Spool Mount, either way you need the Oil Block-off and Filter Relocation Kit.

I used the Biscuit Mounts and modified the Passenger side Mount and K-Member so I could keep the Stock Filter Location. No need to cut or modify passenger or driver's Insulator/Polyloc.
I made it with a larger insulator mounting surface like stock A-Body mount.
Nothing wrong with a remote oil filter, I just didn't want one... Easy mod.
QA1 should make a Hemi Swap K and Mounts. They are welcome to copy my mods.
Seems like a much better design and better clearance all around.
May not be enough demand to justify production though...

QA1 K-Member but I don't see why you could not do the same mod to a stock K.
I love how much clearance it made.
Could probably do a similar mod with the spool mounts.
