1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"
Well, I sat down and did some figgerin. On our "new" budget with me having to have quit working, it's a hit, but it's funny, it's not actually as bad as I thought. I've always thought it was funny how much working actually COST you to work, but it's true. Nonetheless, it is going to slow me down, of course, so I won't be making the updates as soon as I have been, so bear with me, please. Next of course, will be the sound deadener and that's already on the way, so it will be pretty soon.
Going to get the carpet next month. I checked on getting the seats professionally recovered locally.....and had a major coronary. 700 bucks EACH. This was from a local family owned upholstery business I've used before that does great work. Last seat I had them do was for a 73 D100 I had. It was 170 bucks. Course that was probably 1999 "or so".
He explained that.......like everything else material prices have more than tripled. I should have guessed. SO, that means we won't be goin THAT route. LOL I'll simply have to buy the ready made covers and whatever foam I need and Kitty and I will do it ourselves. It will probably be a few months, but you'll want to stay tuned for "ALL THAT". I Can build engines, transmissions and drive trains, so I'm pretty sure recovering seats is within my skill set. My plan though, in the "now" is to get the sound deadener in, then the carpet and we'll just use the blanket Kitty donated to cover the seat back up, so that I can start driving it again. Then save up for the seat covers. In the meantime, I plan on replacing the original timing chain set in the 170 to give it some extra life. I plan to do a nice how to on that. Since I already have all the parts, that's not too far off.
As far as the roller cammed 225, I may have to back up and use this hot solid flat tappet I already have. I hate doing that, because I already even have roller lifters that'll work, but I gotta stay within our now even smaller budget. I caint replace groceries and cat food with a roller camshaft. Might end up with some pissed off cats. lol
All in all, this is still going to be a FUN project, regardless of financial setbacks.
