Extending valve cover baffle. Thoughs?

Hey all,

Asking for opinions! Through the traps I get some oil spray out of the passenger side breather. Instead of a vac pump, or an evac kit...I think I will try something simple.

Below I took off the valve cover, and discovered it has a baffle (which I knew) but it's pretty small, and far away from the breather hole, so not a ton of oil deflection.

I made a template, and I think in going to take a piece of sheet metal, and rivet it to the existing baffle. I may even RTV the sides, and the rear area, and just let it vent out the front.

Be nice If someone just made valve covers with both breather holes on the front... other than 2 identical covers being the reason....I would say the rear passenger side gets the most slosh under acceleration. So not a good place for a breather hole.

Think this will help eliminate some oil spray since it would have to travel all the way from the rear, to the front...then back up my homemade chute.

Yeah it's worth a try. It's those cheapo Blueprint valve covers. You know how those guys are. :rofl:

Can't hurt to try. Watch for the rocker arm clearance.

You can block off/ weld up the back hole and make one in the front. Hmmmm....With that being said thats a good idea for myself!
 
on my big block I ran a couple lines up to a modified coolant overflow and used it as a catch can. ran a -10 line to each cover and put a breather on the top of the can.
worked great. only had to drain it once a year.

I thought about that, but I'm cheap...and unskilled with a Mig.lol A piece of Tin and a few rivets may do me ok! :p
 
And here we go. For the cost of zero dollars, and one "non break cleaner proof" blueprint sticker...we have an extended baffle that should only breathe out the middle of the valve train, and eliminate most blow by spray. Fingers crossed.

p.s. i also RTV'd the sides. but its a very non-professional looking job, and i don't want to ruin @RustyRatRod s high opinion of my skillmanship .lol

looks good. did you seal the back edge like you mentioned earlier? i would think you wouldn't want oil getting trapped in there and pooling under acceleration.

I did just do the sides actually. i fixed my post. And drilled a few tiny drain holes. Good call!

Nice!

I would have spent 2 days doing that.
I'd be in there with the TIG, using every tool in the shop and swearing a lot. Just goes to show, low tech sometimes is the right approach!!

Eh we'll see if it works lol using rtv isnt my most proud moment, but I think this will work! If I had hours and a tig, right....would have liked to do alot prettier job.
 
Pretty ain't always the best.

I've done pretty and I've done good.

Good out weighs pretty every time!
 
Mine did they same thing. I spent the money for a oil separator pcv system and haven’t had any issues since. But without it, the right breather would spit. I also have a very low vacuum engine as well. Should have put some more thought into it like you did and got it done on the cheap!
