I have a 170 w/ automatic currently. It runs, but that's it. I ran across a 225 that was in much better shape, so I purchased it. The 225 was originally attached to a standard transmission. Now I am sitting here wondering if I am going to need another flywheel. I'd like to find out before I have the engine out. I'm aware that I need to change out the engine mounts. Both engines/transmissions are from 1966.

Does anyone have a clue? Different flywheel? Different bellhousing?

If both are as You state, '66's, nope. Other than the front pipe needing checked for clearance or modded/replaced, the rest is the same. the 225 is pretty much 1.5" taller in the vertical than that 170. I'd take that 170 off Your hands if I could get it on a magic carpet to SW PA, lol!!!

Thanks for the info. I was hoping this was the case. If you make the arrangements, you can have it. I have nowhere to store it and its probably headed to the scrap yard, though I'll try to make a post and see if anyone wants it.

I will come get the 170 as soon as you pull it out. I am 2hrs from you and will just go fishing as an excuse to get the engine.

Couple things you gotta do, check what year is the motor and car?

You gotta use your 170 oil pan (early abody).

Find out the year of the motor 67 and down has small crank diameter so you would use a 67 and down flywheel, which you already have.

1968 and up has a bigger crank diameter either way if you need it you can install the bearing Charlie S makes.

Also going from 170 to 225 your head pipe from you exhaust system will not work.

If Killer6 can't get it, its yours, man. I'll let you know when i get the job done.
If somebody local wants it it's cool with Me, there are some others floating around, and a bit closer.
Have at it mopar_nocar,........and a great Independance Day to all.......

Thanks Killer.

@nephlyte if you need a hand wrenching, holler at me a couple days before, and I will get down your way and help....

If anyone is curious, the swap went well. Thanks for the advise. After inspection, it appears someone put a post 67 engine in my 66 valiant parts car. So, I got really delayed when the output shaft didn't fit properly. No worries, there are always parts somewhere. Swapped the flywheel and torque converter to fit the bigger output shaft and viola, it all works. check the picture.

@Slantsix64 Didn't need to swap the oil pan, I guess someone already did that to fit it into the 66 valiant I pulled it out of, but thanks for the heads up, I would not have known that.

@mopar_nocar I'd totally have called for a hand, but it happened in random fits of work over several weeks. But, I have 170 laying on a pallet if you want to arrange a pick up. I also have a ton of parts for that engine if you care to have any of them. I'll send you a DM.

I have a 170 here 30 miles east of NYC I might part with. It came out of a 65 Valiant with 99 thousand miles on the odometer that I parted out.
