I agree. You can get quench with the early heads, you just have to have a machinist who understands the piston CAN (and SHOULD) come out of the deck, or you are the machinist and you do it yourself.
And you are the first on the same line of thinking, setup machining and or buying a piston with a proud head on it/quenchhead/dome.
Right on.
My 410 quench dome j headed sb had 8.889 dynamic and would still slip by on crap cali 91.
And again imo some people are switching the perspective around or simply have a difference of such .... It was as stated.. if you got some cast-iron heads laying around there you go, but if you don't ...you're probably going to buy an after market head and they most all have....closed chambers 'an aluminum head for cheap' . So we're not arguing about whether or not quench is going to happen or has to happen or it's not good or it's the bee's knees.... but this is preference being touted/argued about. So thats YOUR or HIS OR THEM etc's 'preference'...ok bitchin.. nothing wrong with that...though its still not a make or break deal for the goal.
It can go any way you want it to go.
Im not gonna NOT build a motor just because i can't have good quench or incorporate it somehow.
We have some smart people here, good thing we also have really good readers, sometimes. lol
