if all i have is RTV, i'd use the black on the water pump gasket, very thin smoothed out layer. and a daub of the red or black on the bolt threads that go into the water jacket. any of the bolts that dead-end into the cover or brackets, i use a small daub of anti-sieze. have everything ready to go when you seal up the pump on the cover. brackets and bolts laid out. you'll probably still end up loosening a couple of them later when you hang the accessories back on the front
