Yes, I know I am asking the opposite of the normal question. I have a very nice california 1965 barracuda that I will be keeping for a long time. It has a 273 upgraded to commando specs, a stock 904 floor shift, PS, and a horrible aftermarket power brake kit (but still 4 drums).
I am removing the power brake kit and the more I work on this car the more I think about simplifying it. Go back to manual steering, manual brakes........and create a bunch of room in the engine compartment by installing a good running slant six. Crazy, I know.

Will a slant six bolt up to the trans in this 273 car? What converter and trans changes are required?

Thanks.

I got a good one & will trade you for 273

Simple answer. No the trans will not mate up.

Yes the slant will bolt up to his LA 904 ONLY IF you use the 64-67 OEM Mopar adapter that was used in the A100 vans that came with the slant and the short tail shaft 727!
Yes, I have one!

I got this adapter off a slant6 guy who mated an A500 to his slant.

Unless you have a physical limitation that limits your strength, I don't see a need for PS and especially PB in an A.

I simplified my 68 cuda by replacing the leaky, heavy PS with an original manual 16:1 box. Except for parking, it's fine. I wouldn't want to autocross with it though. Also disc brakes using 1973 A-body PS MC run manually.

I WANTED a Valiant with a /6 and searched one out. (I already have two SB-powered a bodies, one a 340.) Manual steering and brakes. The 24:1 steering is slow. I think 20:1 manual would be a good compromise.

Having said all that, I would say if your car originally came with a 273, keep it. Or af least stash it away.

OK then. Since the 273 is already rebuilt and healthy I'll just head to manual steering and brakes. I'll post a question about the manual steering conversion elsewhere.

C'mon, a 6 is fun to cruise in. Easy on a 65: Same K for both, just get the /6 brackets and bolt them in. power steering is not needed. I did the same swap, traded a 318 for a 6+trans. 6 is longer and the engine harness is different as the distributor/oil sender is farther away.

Good thing I put a LOL at the end so you wouldn't take me serious.

OK mod, remove that pesky disagree...you have my blessing.

My 66 Barracuda was born with a 273-2V. Had been converted to a 360-4V, before I got it. I pulled the 360 and installed a 170 slant, with a 64 PB 904 with the PB shifter in a console between the seats.
