i can’t figure out why the rear is sagging so bad, it does have full tank gas, brand new drag shocks, the adj pinion snubber if I put it in will hit na matter what. Not sure why the rear shackles are also hitting. Here’s a few pics. Trying to get ready for drag week and this popped up, just got the car done and can’t figure out why sitting do damn low. Original rear springs.

When I use a jack to try and lift the rear end up it just keeps going up into the wheel well, really doesn’t lift the car. Is if the springs that went bad? I can’t imagine it’s the shocks.

I have a set from this 340 Demon . They are very good condition from a low mile 340 4spd car. we put calvert mono leafs in for the customer. $50 come and get them. I am not that far Danielsville Pa. PM me for my Phone number if you want them. I have many others also . Plus old style 002-003 SS

From the looks of the gaps between the leaves, I am wagering that more than one leaf is split in two at the center bolt hole. Pretty well done what they were intended to do and then some...

Yes agree that the lower short leaf is split in 2 at the center bolt. I blew up the photo of the Driver's side leaf, looks like there is a faint up and down crack on that lower leaf between the U Bolts.

Same thing happened to this 67 Dart, both sides that short leaf was split in half. Put the so called Big Block lower short leaf in the stack (3/8" thick). It gave the car a 2" Lift and still rides nice, not too stiff like the new Super Stock Springs can be.

You can see the new Thicker Short Leaf in the stack on the bottom, here on this 67 Dart.

Thanks, figured it was springs. Gonna tear em our today. I suppose it’s better to happen now than 800 miles from home. Oldmanmopar I wish you were closer. Thanks for the offer but I needed em fast. Got a pair on the way.

What state are you located in I am going to my daugters house in Maryland. I have several different set. I want $150 for SS springs . I also have the Moroso adjustable shackles and adjustable front hangers . Everything from the orange Duster before I put Calverts in. The SS springs with snubber were just as good as Calvert mono's with caltracs. 60 foots were the same. For a fellow racer going to drag week I will sell them cheap. Here are the springs on the car.

Back when I used a snubber, I had to cut it down to fit...If I recall correctly, what is shown in the pic, I cut the top 2 holes off. I would trim it to give about an inch or 1.5" of clearance.

I hope that's not copper brake line in your second photo.

Original springs would be pretty much level when fully loaded. So that part is not terrible.
If the other guys see a crack, then that spring set is more than done.
Can't see the shackels, but they should be angled back and have room to move more vertical as the car rises.
So that's another indicator.
If its not cracked, or you going to go with a stock rear spring pack, cut the box sections of the adjustable snubber so its just touching. If the spring is not totally destroyed it will get you by. Even with BFG Radial T/A I found riding the snubber helped the launch and reduced the spring wrap.

IMO you'll get a much better launch with a leaf pack that has a very stiff front section, and bit of arch and/or some adjustments to get anti-squat.
The SS springs Oldmanmopar has are made for this job.
IMO its also important to get the pinion angle in the ballpark. Get the 2.5 inch wide angled shims as required.

It’s the Nicop stuff, nickel/copper mix. It’s legal brake line just has a copper mix.

Thanks for all the feedback, I have a set of xhd springs on the way and a new pinion snubber. Also u bolts since one decided to strip as it came apart. I plan on making spring clamps for the front sections. Need to get it together Tuesday for test hits Wednesday since I’ll be traveling for work until the night before I need to leave for drag week. Have to get it all wrapped up by Thursday.

You need to decide if you want to control the axle with the leaf spring or the shock. I would replace the broken leaf and see what the ride height is. A flat spring not a bad thing if you have the shock for it. Crank up the compression for the street part and set it for the race part. Find a couple of spare leaves if you need them. I would buy a good quality double adjustable rear shock. I like to control the axle with the shocks, much easier to tune than with the leaves. I don’t like pinion snubbers. With an A body the front spring section is so short we don’t really wheel hop unless you have BIG power and STICKY tire.
