Stop in for a cup of coffee

Cable internet...

The DSL here is horse ****.... I tried it and dropped them like a bad girlfriend after they couldn't provide the speed close to what they advertised/promised...

I signed up for 12 Mbps and they couldn't maintain that so they dropped me down to 6 Mbps for the same rate... And they still couldn't maintain close to that... Sometimes less than 1 Mbps....

After over 12 service calls and they still couldn't provide any kind of reliable connection I went to cable internet and they not only met their advertised speed, they exceeded it... Then tripled it after a while for the same price from 10 Mbps to 30 Mbps...

Never again will I ever use AT&T DSL...
That's good the speed went up but not costs.

I was forced to look into options this year.
12 Mbps would be super fast for DSL. I'm on pretty new copper wiring close the exchange box and 2.8 down /.7 up Mbps is the norm. I know there were higher speed DSL projects but now they don't seem to have much future. It might be good for disaster situations but I dont see that happening.

Looked into going with FIOS. Speeds are very high. For a gamer or TV over internet it might be great. Pricing after introductiory discounts is brutal. Verizon needs to get what they can out of it before 5G internet becomes competitive.

So I tested out a 4G hot spot. Latency can be a little worse than DSL. 39 to over 40 mSeconds, but speeds are around 25 Mbs up and down. That's some help when I need to send off a report with lots of images. Best part is I didn't have to pull CAT 5 wires all through the house. I think 5G is either going to kick wired internet in the teeth or at least make them up their game. But then again I also thought FiOs was going to make Comcast's internet and phone service more competitive. Not here. :(
