Stop in for a cup of coffee

What is this a picture of ? Zinc plating mix ? Do you mind telling a little about it ?

Bill

The trunk latch on this 67 dart was cleaned and replated with New Zinc, in a process like electrolysis moving the zinc particles in the solution to the part you want to replate.

The current of 3 volts is used from a 12 volt battery charger on trickle. Polish it up a little at the end of the plating process. The zinc mix is something like vinegar, wash soda, zinc strips from the hardware store, and Karo Syrup of all things that helps bring out the shine in the plated finish. Have to let the mix soak for at least 24 hours so that the zinc particles gets absorbed into the solution from the vinegar breaking it down. Pretty cool how it all works, something I can do in house here without having to send things out. Have to see if I can dig up the actual recipe for the mix as it is buried somewhere around here.

The marvel of science . . . A process that is like the opposite of Electrolysis that is used for rust removal.
