What brand is your favorite tape measure?
I am convinced now that I need a fat Max
For years I was loyal to sears and I only bought craftsman. I even worked at Sears as a younger me in my early 20s so everything was Sears craftsman.
Times are changing and craftsman isn't what it was anymore
As a 33 year veteran of the Carpentry trade, I have used a few brands. The Stanley FAT MAX is a winner. I have tried others but the Stanley brand is an excellent product. I often have to extend a tape out to hook a wall or a truss, sometimes in windy conditions. The thicker steel of the FM is far better than any other one that I have used.
What annoys me though.....
UNrelated to the tape measures is how HOME DEPOT seems to play corporate games with the -products that they sell. It probably isn't limited to them, I'll bet other stores do the same.
Here is the scenario as I think it might happen:
ABC company wants to sell it's widgets but knows that their competition at CBA makes a better product. Their sales and marketing department somehow convince Home Depot to carry their line of tools EXCLUSIVELY. THis may be done by offering rock bottom wholesale prices, bribing the HD purchasing agents with junkets, vacations, money, whatever...
THis may be why HD doesn't carry some items that are superior in quality.
DeWalt makes some good stuff but they make an absolutely shitty chalk box. All I see on the shelf there is the DeWalt. To get a Milwaukee or Irwin, both are superior and far more durable, I have to go elsewhere.
Hammers. I use a Stilletto Titanium 14 oz framing hammer. HD refuses to sell them, the'd rather sell hammers that are outdated and heavy. Why?
