Another thing that people have to keep in mind is although the bottom end architecture has changed, the top end has not. Even well thought-out modern valvetrains are limited to around .650 lift for true street use/durability. An old, heavy valvetrain design is going to require a lot of spring pressure to keep it under control, and that takes it's toll. Although a wild .800 solid roller would play well with 572 cubes, it wouldn't be long for this world.
