Stop in for a cup of coffee
LOL, you all have probably heard of an oil called Omega. I think it is made in Australia. A very good oil. I have seen some of it's qualities, and it is really good.
Anyway, I was at a fair, and this sales man was talking about this oil, and how it could give so much better gas mileage. This was probably around 1988-1990 or so. He told people this oil was so good it could increase mileage by 12-14%. Just for the engine oil. So, I was listening to him, and there was a bunch of people there listening to him. So, finaly I said. About 10% of the energy in an engine is friction, and at that time to simplify it, 30% was hot water, 30% was exhaust heat, and the last 30% went to spin the flywheel and could be used for moving the car. And I asked him, do you agree with my figures ? Yes, in that neighborhood he said. So, your oil, does it only fix the friction problem, or does it increase the combustion efficiency too ? No, it is from reducing the friction he said. And I thought to myself, you dumb**s, you set your own trap. Now you have asked for it, I will give it to you on a silver platter.
I said, so what you are actually saying is that let us say you have a car with a 100 horsepower engine, fill your oil in, then if your oil increased mileage by 10%, that means you take away all the friction in the engine, reduce it to zero. But, you had to go to 12-14%. That means you can turn off the key and the engine will still spin and give 2-4 horsepower. How is that possible ? And, I put it in such a way that everyone who were standing around understood what I said. People started laughing, and left. I left in a hurry too, I did not want to cause any more commotion than I had. And not that I am any smarter than other folks, far from. But, I am sceptical, and I am not afraid to ruin someone sale if it is based on a lie. Then, if the guy had said that their oil could reduce friction by 12-14%, that I maybe could believe. But, he had to go all the way to mileage and fell in his own trap.
