You have to learn to stack the paper, cardboard/kindling, and progressively go larger diameter wood and logs to get it going....

Paper? Only at home. ;) In the field, whatever is available - small twigs or split some kindling and tinder out.
If no matches, then a little char-cloth and dry tow to get the kindling going.
Not that difficult at all - with a little prep. :)
