Anyone can tell me if this is a A500 or an A518 trans?

518. Look at the other side to see if it has the "bump out" by the dipstick tube, like a 727.

518. How many "pins" are in that electrical plug in connector? Cant see from where I'm sitting!

What did that come out of? Passenger side starter?

Easy way ito tell is an A500 uses an A904 trans pan gasket. And an A518 uses an A727 trans pan gasket. A500 pan is rectangular with an angle on one end. A518 also has the side bump out on passenger side. See gaskets below.

3 pins, Then your golden. I think neutral safety/reverse switch is pinned the same as an A727 too.

Not sure if that RH starter is gonna help or hinder you if putting this in an A body.

42RH is a good one everybody overlooks because its A904 based. I have one I will be building up eventually. They have a numerically lower 1st gear than the 46RH. Gets you out of the hole quicker than the 46RH, plus it's a bit smaller and fits the tunnel better. Drag racers are building the 42RH because of the lighter weight, and lower 1st gear. If built right they will hold up to 500HP I am told.

just askin… is it possible to use the 4x4 A500 trans from say a 93, 3.9 Dakota, and use it for a 2WD vehicle ?
I can find a lot of the 4x4 units....but the 2WD model are hard to find

I don't know why not, but you have to put up with the extra weight and HP/ MPG loss. I would guess they are some weaker than a 2x4

You would need to find the 2 wheel drive extension housing and output shaft, then take the trans apart and swap everything out.

Just curious...what were the 42RH trans found in and what years? I have a 46RH that I will be building but I like the idea of lighter/smaller trans and lower 1st gearing at my HP level.

I think about 89-95 in Dakota trucks and jeeps. They went to the electronic RE version when they went to the OBD2 system. Not sure how many made into full size trucks and vans.

were any of the 89 95 jeeps ever built as 2WD ?...if so would the A500 from a jeep straight 6 bolt up to a small block mopar ? any other issues using a jeep 2WD A500 trans in an A body mopar ?
