After calling 12-15 glass companies around Houston I finally found one that CLAIMS to have the windshield for the 76 Volare RR and will be here at 9 or so!!!! I am excited. Also we finally got a logger ( after 6 month looking) to come in and clear several acres , I will have a spot for a shop and put some cars out of the way. 4 logs pines (65-75 ft) and big oaks falling every which way. The glass guy will be right in the middle!!!! lol
Record low this am at 26 or so! Loggers were here at 6:30 am.

Thanks to Krazykuda and his how to; How to Rebuild a Small Block Part 1: Block Prep

I finally got up off my *** and started cleaning up the casting flash on my LA360 block (not a magnum). I didn't think to get any pictures of before. Damn.
I still have to pull the tiny little 1/2" or so oil gallery plugs and the threaded ones as well, gotta borrow the propane torch from work to heat up the block around them, and the dipstick tube which was broken off in the block.

I used a dremel with a stone at around 20,000 rpm. It cuts fast enough for me, and doesn't leave any burrs so I am plenty happy. I may be a little obsessive about getting rid of stress risers.

I'll hit the block tomorrow with some GUNK and a scraper and a brush to get it real clean and then find and remove the rest of the casting flash. Dingle ball it next weekend so I get a good look at what I have to work with.

I'll get a pic of the casting number tomorrow, it looks like it is 6300692 360

edit;
found it here.

Sorting Out: Chrysler’s 238, 318, 360 Engines, Doug Anderson, Automotive Rebuilder, April 2000

1989-’90
The 360 got a new block with three cast bosses in the valley for the roller lifter holddowns. Although all of these engines had fuel injection, they continued to use the cam with the long snout along with either the eccentric or the special cup-shaped washer. Both intermediate cam journals had holes to meter oil topside. The 318 and 360 cams are different and shouldn’t be interchanged. The most common block castings are 4315830 and 53006921. The later block (53006921) was used in ’91, too, so check the oil filter boss to see whether it’s a ’89-’90 or ’91 before using it for either application.

1991
This was the year of the corporate oil filter, so the 360 block was changed along with the 238 and the 318. The oil filter boss was 0.250" shorter so both the plate and adapter were modified accordingly. The rear main cap had a dowel pin and may or may not have the recess for the o-ring. The cap was still grooved for the rear pan seal. It had the old style ears for the motor mounts. The block was the 53006921 casting that was carried over from ’90, so once again you have to physically check the length of the filter boss to be sure if it fits a ’90 or ’91.

Here's the block stamping.

This is the only before picture I can find right now. You can see the oil drain hole is filled with flash. When I look at it tomorrow in the light, there may be other drain holes that were just never opened up, but as it is, the others are just not there. If needed, I can drill some tomorrow.

Here I've cleaned and opened up the drain hole.

Today's work;

It snowed today, so I had to go out and shovel the block. Then I was able to relax.

After cleaning a LOT of nasty off it today, I got a couple of sharpies to mark all the numbers so I could finally see what I have, and because well, just because. I still need to get some of the threaded plugs out, but that ain't happening without a torch, then I can remove the two tiny ones at the front of the engine. I got a little 1/4" steel rod so I can pop them out from the back. The outer walls of the cylinders were VERY clean, and just reaching my fingers in the freeze plug holes, you can barely feel any texture. There were some deposits that I did manage to wash out, but not a lot.

Now that I got MOST of the crud removed (there is still a ton of dirt on the back of the block, the previous owner had it in a W250 that he went wheeling in all the time), I can finish grinding off flash and removing stress risers, breaking edges. I can't find my wire wheel brushes, I'll look more tomorrow.

Come the new year it'll be ready for the machine shop for tanking (I want this thing CLEAN for a nice new coat of paint), new cam bearings, boring (hoping I can avoid that), honing, getting the decks level, perpendicular and at the proper height. I am tempted to do the oiling mods too. Neighbor came by and distracted me from working on my car by talking about cars.

I've decided to do the block in white instead of the original black (sorry, @yellow rose but them's the breaks) to make it much easier to spot any leaks.

Weather here was very nice, so a cruise was in order. Found a flaming red bush in a park and decided it was picture time.

It ran great for 2 years.....but I think i lost the rear servo....AGAIN...ugh!
I'm so bad, i already have "while I'm at it"!!!
While I'm at it, may as well put in a GOOD torque converter. .....last time i cheaped-out....

Yeah, good for you man. Check out @younggun2.0 and his 727 build.

my 727 build thread

That was almost 4 years ago? It felt like yesterday. Yikes!

Finished cleaning the mud/sandstone off the block and cleaning flash and breaking edges and the beer.
no pictures.

Yesterday I jacked up the 62 Dart as high as I could and sprayed the bottom side with epoxy primer, after I had cleaned all of the old undercoat off that was feasible. Today I sprayed it with black Rusteolum. In a few days I will spray it with undercoating and call it good enough!

Just Driving the old dirt bag in the rain.... Free Truck washing !!!!!
Takes a beating and Mopars keep on moving !!!!!
Love Me old 1977 Dodge D150 Warlock..Daily Driver, Rain or Shine.. :)

Got the broken end of the dipstick tube out of the block. A little oil and an 11/32" drill bit and about 20 seconds of work.
If you need to drill it out because the tube gets broken off and you can't drift it out with a punch and hammer...

I’m recurving a couple distributors. Looking for 18*initial 16*mechanical 34*total want it all in around 2800. I get the most vacuum 20hcg at 20* initial, plan is to back off initial by 2* for setting initial timing at 18*.

finally got a solid roof over the dart. been stored under a tent that was 12 years old and falling apart with a cover on it. this weekend we stepped it up some.. would have liked a real garage that i could do a lift and all in down the road but the cost that i'd never get back if we decided to move and the tax increase we decided on this. if we ever decide to move i can sell it to the buyer, take it with me or sell it outright and get some of my money back.. looks like i'll be able to work on the car inside too which is nice. the stone pad is large enough for the garage, my camper and has room if i want to buy another garage for my lil red express down the road.. i still have to get some dirt and clean things up around it and build a ramp to make it easy to get the car in and out but at least its inside for the poor weather now..

Today I unpacked my suspension parts order. New upper & lower ball joints, torsion bars and LCA
reinforcement plates. Also a rear sway bar kit. Trying to get my car to handle like I think it should.

What are you pulling out and replacing with? I'm pulling a 10" T-A 17805st (about 3400 flash) for an FTI 4000 hard hit this winter along with some other changes. Nothing wrong with the Turbo Action, just want more!!!

I'm just gonna pull it, repair it (I'm pretty sure it's the rear servo) and as long as it's out, a higher stall converter....
It's a 727
