We have a steel garage door, and bought also at Home Depot the Owens Corning insulation mats. I don't remember the size, but something like yours. But we did it for the heat in the summer. The afternoon sun is shining on the door and the garage got roasting so we could not be there and the difference could be felt as we mounted them. Then the winter came, and we had the same difference, just the other way, the garage can be used in the winter too. So, this is really a pleasant thing to have.

My garage door is steel too. I double insulated it to R5 a few years ago for both Winter cold and Summer heat (sun shines on mine all day in Summer too). It made a huge difference. Now with the windows insulated too, it has as much of an effect as doing the garage door did.
