Selling a beautiful CARTER COMPETITION THERMOQUAD 850 cfm. This is the 4846s model. It is in excellent condition with all choke linkages that are seen in the picture . Hard to find a nicer one. As far as I know, jetting is stock, original. These are very rare and hard to find in great shape. $700 shipped. Howell, Michigan Thanks in advance.

Would this be a good replacement for a OE 72 Carter 6138s 340 standard trans equipped TQ . engine has been rebuilt producing an estimated 450-500 HP. I want a good performing fair weather street drive car carb , thanks Ed.

Ed, this carb has one less ring on the primary booster. There will be a reduction on the signal and velocity past and through the booster. These carbs are known to not have the excellent throttle response and ease of tune of the OE TQ’s. This carb also has a manual choke. So you need a choke cable. There cheap.

There is someone here selling your exact carb you mention FWIW.

Im not trying to disease you but inform you and I hope the seller understands this because I’m not trying to sabotage his sale. This is indeed an excellent carb for many applications. And it looks danm good to!

850’s, pic#1 have the double booster and a Venturi in the primaries. The 1000’s pic#2 have single boosters and no Venturi in the primaries

@Dana

THANK YOU!!!! For the correction. My (very very) bad.
Thanks for also being “Johnny on the spot” on this.
Most stand up of you.

As Rumble said, the double booster is more suitable for street driving. What a fella needs to know about the carb that is for sale is: does it have screw in or press in jets. The press in jet carbs are a little harder to find tuning parts for.

The carb has press in jets. I believe the 4846s version is press in jets and the 4846sa version has the screw in jets.
I believe that also, but I haven’t seen enough of the to actually state that. Also none of them are stamped, and tags can be swapped.
