On a 68 barracuda tailight, behind the lense...theres a red tunnel like part. It has tabs that fit into the housing and fits between the bulb and the red part of the taillight lense. Anyone know what that part is called and if it comes with new or repop lenses? Looks like this...Thank you

you

Is there a part number on it?
You could also look in your years parts catalog

I looked and didn't see any numbers on it. That's why I was wondering if it was part of the lense. Maybe like an assembly.

I know the part, it surrounds the stop light bulb in the housing. I was able to reuse the inner part that you show with the existing lenses in new housings.
To find out if it is included with new lenses, just call Classic Industries or some other new 68 Barracuda stop light lense seller.

Good idea, I'll have to do that and see what they say. I know I've never seen it for sale anywhere.

I know the new lenses I bought did not come with them. Luckily I had a few sets and was able to pick out ones that were not distorted from the bulb getting too hot.

I wonder why nobody's ever offered them for sale, especially if they go with the taillight assembly.

Those are called "bulb separators" and they are not currently being re-produced.

They do not come with the tail light lenses, so you do have to re-use your original pieces when changing out the lenses and housings.

So your up the creek if yours are damaged...to bad nobody could start reproducing them. The need is there, theres got to be a lot of them that need replacing.

"up the creek"
those things are not visable from the outside of the car. If I needed a replacement, does not look to difficult to fasion a suitable replacement from piece of red tinted thin plexiglass. Either one strip, wrapped to make a circle, perhaps formed a bit with heat from a blow dryer, or a couple of pieces super glued together.
There are pegs on one end that fit into slots-holes in the taillight housing, the end closest to the lens is held in place by friction in a piece of foam. Don't see much critical...

That would be an idea, I just wonder why no one ever tried to sell them. Maybe everyone sells the complete housing all the time...IDK

99 44/100% of the time, those separators are protected from the elements inside the housing behind the outer lens, so they do not get damaged like they would if they were out in the open, so they are often times in good usable shape.

In the 14 years that I've worked here at Layson's, we have never had a request for us to find those......

With that being said, it'd be hard to justify the tooling costs to produce them.

I disagree
The tabs are always broken

I myself wish they were available for replacement, I mean you replace the lenses. Why not replace those too, my right side one is melted from the bulb and cracked. Wouldn't that be part of the restoration too.
I got it...anyone have a 3D printer..
