Hey ole, I was wondering if you can carburate an eagle 5.7. it is a 2011 5.7 out of a ram and I want to carburate it does anyone know what is involved in what parts I will need if possible. Thanks

Couple of reasons. I only have engine, no wiring or controller. I like the idea of a dual carbureated modern hemi. I want to avoid major tuning as much as I can

Let me see if I got this right, you’re going to do a dual quad gen3 Hemi and you think with carbs you won’t have to tune it?
Just as as reference point, my crate gen3 392 goes down the road at 80mph and gets 18 mpg. Don’t think you’ll ever do that with carbs

Well I know there is some tuning that goes on but I'm talking about tuning to the point where I have to bring it somewhere to have someone else tune it. MPGs are irrelevant since a 4 speed is going behind it

The short answer is, yes, you can carb an Eagle engine. However, the MSD Hemi 6 box only recognizes the 32 tooth crank reluctor of the 08 and earlier. That means the crank comes out and a new reluctor wheel has to be put on the crank. Along with ALL of the TTY fasteners.

Thanks. Now Edelbrock makes an intake but it fits the early gen 3. Do you know of and adapter to for the eagle heads?

There is, but, I can't think of the company right off.

Well, I'm a working man. Nobody gives me a damn thing. I have gen 3 stuff around. Life is full of choices. You choose to do it or you don't. I chose to, on a a real world budget. Not going down this road. Sorry to the OP for the rant. Any questions or remarks, I can be PM'd.

All good. I'm in a similar position. I just happen to have a 2011 5.7 around and wanted to know if it could work on a budget. I also have a 1970 383HP so I guess this is a good problem to have

What's wrong with the 2011? That helps determine a budget.

It had a wiped lifter but was fixed under warranty years ago. I bought it from a guy who put a 6.4 in his truck 2 years ago

Well if it's useable as is, the money used to refresh the 383(assuming it needs it), could go to all the swap parts. And still have some left over probably. I would keep it injected. You would be happier with it I think. Hotwireauto.com can set you up with a very reasonably priced plug n play harness and computer. I've done these both ways, carb or injected. The Eagles play nicer injected. They have the VVT and short runner intake you can take advantage of staying electronic.

I think he's trying to say he's more familiar with tuning carburetors than EFI.

Seemed kind of obvious didn’t it.
Most of us can tune a carb half drunk.
Computer..... yea, ah, NO.
Regardless.... So far it is an intake, new front cover to fit a distributor. And of course the carbs and stuff.
That price can fluctuate a bit, but otherwise, it doesn’t seem to horribly bad.
Oh! Forgot the oil filter issue cost.
No big deal?
I can see the cost rise real quick with headers and exhaust. Roughly 2K.? That’s if, IF headers are part of the build.

Mileage wise, that issue is totally dependent on gearing, tune & a good working engine combo that isn’t heavily out of balance. (Cam way to large, etc...) The efficient gas consumption & transmission power transfer coupled with rear gearing and tire size is the combo that can not be off balance.

Having a modern transmission gives you the ability to have the best of both worlds of rapid acceleration and multi OD for Hwy. cruise. Which can be difficult to install and/or costly.

Being limited to a 1:1 final drive is a compromise leaning one way or the other. Since he has a 4spd manual, I don’t think he gives a ****.

A 5spd manual or a 4spd auto OD will still be really good with a lower first gear a day good OD gear and allow good performance & mileage. I was able to get 20 mpg’s on my 360/904/2.76 geared B body. I know there was more in it. Granted it doesn’t have the big power of the Hemi.
But it also lacked everything else that makes modern drivetrains great. Overdrive, cylinder drop out, etc....

Some of us just wanna stay old school.
Simple but still get effective with less headaches, (near) zero learning curve, on parts we can just about fix blind folded.

I should add, the Hotwireauto can benefit from a tune, however, the tune that's in it is good. Meaning like I said before, plug n play. I did a 5.7 conversion in a 72 Challenger 2 yrs. ago. 3.55 gear, OD 833, 2013 5.7 with 6.4 SRT auto cam. No "tune" on it. Customer reports 20 mpg.

All good info fellas. From my research on the carb setup was carb intake and an MSD-6 style computer (forgot the name of it but was about $750) no distributor needed. Headers and exhaust don't matter, I have SRT keep manifolds or I can fab up headers. I have no fuel injection intake so that's what started this idea with carbureated. As to retroron, I'm not a beginner with this stuff, I know what I was asking as do others (with great feedback appreciated). Now that Holley Terminator x (I saw it last night) totally throws a wrench into it. It is priced Right plus Holley now sells many other gen 3 accessories (finally)

To carb a 2010. The phaser needs to be locked and the FAST XIM can be used as a stand alone for the 58 tooth reluctor. Intake wise you have your choice but depends on what you are looking for. OCP, Indy, Mopar performance, I have seen a few XV intakes floating around also. The eddy dual quad has the early 5.7L port but could be modified for the eagle engine.
