Can you get a close up of just the flat pad with the numbers?

A closeup would still help a lot.

Is that a 1G in the partial VIN?

This is NOT a warranty transmission.

The larger number is 1G112517
The earlier numbers that are stamped over appear to be P8333154____?8?
The ? marks are the numbers I can't determine.
Supposed to be a 71 RR 440 car.

1G so it has to be from a 1971 B-body.

For the rest, a nice clear in focus close up photo may help.

Trying to decide to buy it or not. Don't have possession of it yet. Thanks for the info.
Is the trans to crossmember mount in the same position as a 67 up A body?

Is there any way to determine from the numbers I have if it originally came from behind a 340, 383, or 440?

71 B&E body trans, will not fit an A-Body. I put one in a Duster in 1980 and had to torch and relocate the frame member to put it in the car. You can change the tail housing but that was too expensive for me to do then...

A 440 car would have been factory equipped with a "Hemi" trans with 18 spline input shaft. If it is 23 spline then it was a 318, 340 or 383 car.
I bought a trans for my 64 at a swap meet. I thought it was a good deal for $225. When I finally took it apart for a quick refresh I discovered that it needed more than just synchros and gaskets. I have at least 1G into it now. So be careful and if it was me, I'd keep looking for an A body trans.

Alaskan hit the nail on the head. It has the dual shifter location for B and E body. So the story jives that it's from a 71 Runner. Hemi cars and the 6 pack/6 barrel cars had the 18 spline input as standard equipment. The 4 barrel 440 engines came with 23 spline, 18 optional. Regardless of this info, it still won't work in your A-body without some heavy mods for shifter location. If it's dirt cheap, just snag the dang thing and flip it or use it for trading stock.

According to this it goes in pretty easy with a fabbed shifter mount plate.
B/E body four-speed in an A-body
I found a Hurst plate on Ebay that mounts on the front 3 shifter bolt holes. It moves the shifter half way between the front 3 bolts holes for a B body and the rear 3 bolts holes for an E body. I have a bench seat in my Demon and the shifter fit just fine. I also found a offset tranny mount that just fits the tranny and the crossmember. I'll look for some pics I took before I installed it.
