So I’m rebuilding my 904 due to it not shifting correctly. I beat the linkage to death trying to get it to shift so it wasn’t that.
Anyway I’m new to this trans and it’s missing stuff? First the accumulator spring was gone? The valve was just wedged in there cockeyed so it wasn’t moving?
Also the valve body is missing check balls? I think there is one missing in the center and is there suppose to be a high pressure relief spring and check ball in the corner?
it’s a 1968 non lock up with no part throttle kick down.
Thanks.
I also have the Carl Monroe torqueflight book I’m using as a guide.

I have 2 valve bodies laying around in my way . I would think they are unmolested, 1 is a 67 and 1 a 68. From /6's. Your's for the shipping if you need it.

What CudaFactHackJob said. Sounds like a home made shift kit I read about once. One hole in separator plate drilled, checks removed from a few places, accumulator springs pulled out. It should have been titled "how to make your transmission useless".

Looks like the separator plate is from a B&M shift improver kit. Probably has a blocker rod in the shuttle valve. Then it looks like they tried doing some steps from a shift kit to combine the 2. Probably didn’t work out so well as the separator plate is different than a stock plate. Kim

Thanks everyone for the input! Also thanks Ratrod Al for the offer.
So this 904 came out my 72 charger not my slant 6, will the slant valve body that has been generously offered work? It’s just a small block 318.
Thanks Jeanette

U should try keep close in the years when switching valve bodies. There is a difference in the cases every so many years. Also the rooster comb should have the plastic piece on it for 69 and newer as it is for the back up lights. Post the numbers on the drivers side pan rail of the tranny case so we know what year we’re dealing with. Kim

It is a 1968 tranny so the vb that Al offered will work. Did u say it’s in a 72 charger?

Yeah a 72. I got it for next to nothing. The previous owner couldn’t get it running or moving. He had unhooked and tied up the driveshaft to roll it. I messed with the bands a little bit and pretty much hot wired it and she roared to life. I could never get it to shift into “D” though. I could manually shift from 1-2 but it never went into 3rd. And never shifted up or down on its own no matter what I did to the kick down linkage. Here’s a picture.

Numbers don't matter when the vb isn't original, plus the cases changed for different motors in different years. Why is it nobody wants to just look at the case configuration to make sure it fits? They just wanna look up numbers on the intra-web and make their decision based on that. Might as well just try to fix the one ya took out of it. I'm predicting the pan's gonna come offa this one at least three more times, lol.

U will also need to change the rooster comb to the 1 with plastic on it for ur back up lights. If it is possible as some u can and some u can’t. Failing to do this ur b u lights will be on when ur in drive. U also need the 3 pin neutral start switch. Kim

It had the single post NSS when I got it. I thought maybe they had the wrong switch in there so I swapped it with the 3 pin and then things started coming together in my head that this was an earlier trans. Ha
I’m rebuilding this in my warm basement due to the cold weather here in MN. If the pan comes off a few times I guess I just get a fresh beer and go forward.
thanks everyone for the help!!

I’m back on the 904.
I’m wondering if this kickdown band looks ok? How much meat is suppose to be on it? I realize they get rebuilt so I’m assuming that the minor imperfections are due to that?
