Weight loss and perseverance
My mother-in-law just asked me how my dieting is going.
It occurred to me in an epiphany that this is the fundamental issue with the concept of losing weight that many people have....and why so many can’t make it stick.
The word “Diet” is not (nor should be) considered a verb.
The word “Diet” is a noun...it is what types and amounts of food someone consumes on a regular basis.
“Diet” as a verb means an action...like an action to take to lose weight.
The verb definition is intrisically flawed for true long term weight loss or maintenance. An action is short lived and not sustainable.
I don’t “Diet”...I reduce the number of calories WITHIN my diet to lose weight without changing what I eat. The verb is “reduce”.
Subtle maybe...but to me, it is profound.
