I think the reasoning behind that is if you had a 318 2bbl duster 904 2.76's, and I have the same car but mine is a 4 speed, with traction I can come out of the hole at 4k rpms and I'd beat you. Now, as the auto gets built, you see he has massive deductions for MVB's, good converters, etc. So, in the end the auto has more deductions. But starting with the nominal car, the 4 speed has the edge with traction. And I agree with the chart.
