Heater Box Restoration

-
Welcome aboard honzy, as above said the DMT kit is good. I will also add be extremely careful when removing small steel clamps that hold box halves together. Boxes are fragile and break/crack easily.
Take some of the strength out of clamps before reassembling box halves. There is a serious amount of tension on them.
Good luck

You sure are just did mine had to break out the fiberglass on one spot.

Thanks for link/info......as I was just going to ask if there was a kit and where to get, as I have to drop my heater box to put in a new heater core coming up this spring..........and thought I might as well re-freshen the whole box.
Make sure you get a quality core, a lot of them do not fit properly at all.

I would be VERY tempted to have my original recored. As Halifaxhops mentioned new ones are hit and miss for good fit. Whatever you do dont toss out your original.

I still have my old one looking for a place locally that can fix it PROERLY!

I did my 72 box. I used a Spectra heater core and the fit good. Gaskets from DMT.
If you want to save the original core then Bob at GlenRay is the best.
I used to be next to Rich the heaterbox guy at Carlisle. He does really nice work.

It does not need to be factory for Bob to do it. If you know the one in the box fits he can recore it. I just sent a core from a 63 that is not original and he said no problem.

I'm redoing mine this week. I bought the DMt gasket kit. It's a shame I paid $40 for the kit and only used a few gaskets for my non A/C airbox.

Gonna rant here, but this threads a perfect example of a lack of manners. Honky asks a question, people give great advice whether its tips tricks, restorers pictures you name it. But NOT 1 measly thanks, like, agree or anything. And people talk about lack of manners in young kids/people??
Check the age here.....

And to think, you could've just called them up and ordered the few you needed for a fraction of the cost. I did that when I re-did mine. It was very inexpensive and EXCELLENT quality!
