Here is the part where we took care of the common problem with most 318s running stock bottom ends. Compression

The stock heads were the 302s. So we needed to increase flow and decrease head volume.
List of modifications to heads include.
Full port and polish
Bigger valves 1.8 in and 1.6 ex
Cut valve guides down to handle up to .525 lift
High quality valve job
And a good milling

This got us into to the 9.5 to 1 range.
