small block 360 cam selection

well...i do and my current ride uses just such a converter. With the small cam the 340 it pulls hard on the street, gets good mileage and i love it.It would not be best for the quarter mile though. But yes my last build had a 9 1/2 dynamic with a much higher stall and it certainly improved the bottom end. I just did not like driving through it repeatedly when pushing it during regular driving.

Who said ANYTHING about a 9.5 inch converter? I'm pretty sure an 11 inch converter can get to 3500 and I'd bet all I have you couldn't tell it was a 3500 with a gun to your head.

Converters have improved like most everything else. The days of a 2500 converter in anything but a dead stock combo should be long gone.

If the OP wants a 2500 converter than that's ok. But when I see what he's doing that pops up as a big red flag. The car is heavy, has a fairly tall gear and isn't making a bunch of torque. So handicap it with no converter and then buy a cam to try and cover that up. Then it will be a ***** to get the tune up correct so it doesn't rattle its brains out trying to get it to move, and every time you get to tip in it does the same.

So you retard the timing (power loss) and then to get the rattle out at tip in you end up unplugging the vacuum advance (another power loss and the fuel mileage goes straight in the crapper) and where did the OP end up? With a confused, hard to tune, no fun to drive fuel gulping pig.

I'd at least call someone and see if I'm nuts. I could be dead wrong. But I doubt it.
