SAD..Seasonal affective disorder.. how do you northern guys deal with it?

Well Harry, this site IS considered ‘social media’. You are here talking, interacting and sharing your thoughts. That by definition is ‘social media’.

Nothing wrong with it, it allows us to connect with other people socially and discuss common interests...from continents away sometimes.

It’s only when it becomes a replacement for the actual physical reality of socializing with people that it becomes an issue.

 Point well taken, Ddaddy. What I was referring to is best described in your closing sentence. The people who sit at the same table in restaurants, heads bowed as if in worship as they interact with their electronic 'devices' whilst ignoring one another. Or who walk about so absorbed in whatever it is they are doing on their smart phones that they seem totally unaware of their surroundings. Much like the street scenes in the movie 'The Matrix' where Neo, Morpheus and others walk down the crowded sidewalks in a busy city and no one seems to be aware of their presence......

My wife is younger than I and has a smart phone. A week ago, she hopped in the car and we went for a drive. About 5 minutes later, she realized that she had left her smart phone at home. I was somewhat amused to see that she was nervous, bordering on what I can only describe as withdrawal symptoms.

I reminded her that she had bought a flip phone a while back and it was in the console. She got it in case the car craps out at 0-dark thirty in the morning in the middle of nowhere so whomever is driving can call AAA for a tow. Really, I think she got it for me as I have no smart phone, but I leave it in the console and never turn it on unless the car craps out or some other such emergency arises. About all I do with it really is to bring it in and put it on the charger every few weeks so it will be ready if needed. Nonetheless, I believe she was genuinely disconcerted by not having her smart phone at hand. So I turned around and drove back home so she could get it before leaving once again for our drive. :)

Best regards,

Harry
