Write up or guide available for alternator pulley install?

Got the pulley swapped out, before i took the old pulley off i laid a piece of steel plate to where the edge rested on the housing perpendicular to the groove, took a sharpie and laid it in the groove and made a mark on the plate for depth, pressed the new aluminum pulley on and put it where the dot on the plate lined back up with the tip of the sharpie sitting in the groove.
