massive reconfiguration time again.
well I got home from snowmobiling today and it was still pretty sunny and not too late so I had everything all hooked up and gave it a shot.. first of all I didn't have any fuel leaks from the fuel rails or anything so that felt good. I was having some trouble getting the throttle to retract all the way every time I had to give it the old blimp to make it idle down... I wired the rear choke wide open and verified the front one was staying open as well so it wasn't that...
it seemed to high idle right away and I just couldn't get it to idle down enough...
It smelled extremely rich and the O2 sensor wasn't doing anything much over 10.. I let it warm up and took it for a ride...
Again it had good throttle response from down low But as I crept into the secondaries it fell on its face a couple of few times. The last time it didn't seem too so much but still things weren't right..
I got the feeling right away because of the way they run the primary circuit like my Edelbrock that the metering Springs were too heavy.. keeping the metering rods out of the primary Jets and not choking off the fuel at idle..
I called the Holley tech line just to see what they said before I started making a judgments and throwing money at it.. again not much just a kid who didn't know much about anything but reading the manual. But his best advice was to get the idol cleaned up first and everything should go good from there. So I do remember those step Springs had some major effects before. I'm having to split the little bit of vacuum that I do have between the two carburetors.. okay here's where my cheap *** starts trying to do stuff wrong.. I wanted to pop the Springs out and see what they were like what they look like how heavy they were and so forth. I looked at her Springs up and I looked at Edelbrock Springs up and things were looking pretty familiar, as a matter of fact very familiar... Bothcarburetors share the first three steps and colors and everything but the fourth step is a 6 I think on the Edelbrock in a 7 or something on the street demon and then they both go to an eight and one says silver and one says clear which basically is the same.. so I pulled the street demon Springs out and they were green which was pretty damn heavy for my application.. I pulled out all my Edelbrock Springs which I have two sets of and started comparing them to these Green Springs width wise and strength.. of course the street demon green is an odd one compared to any of the other ones but I needed to get shocked or Springs to hold those rods down in the Jets at idle.. I just said f it and grab the number for yellows which are now clear because they're washed off from gas but the ones that were in the Edelbrock that I have. That's going to be my first try tomorrow.
