Hooker,doug's,TTI?

Removing the steering column isn't that bad. I did attempt to install the motor/headers with steering column in place, sadly needed less than 1/2" of space. Removed the column and the headers dropped in. No denting
The sanderson headers have the smallest primary tube size at 1 1/2". I believe dougs and tti are 1 5/8" The collectors are 2 1/2"

I also made the decision to change to power steering to manual for the space savings (and other benefits). The jury is out on this decision

How is the manual steering as compared to the power steer? Did you get a particular ratio 16:1 or 24:1? Just curious have given thought for doing same swap. Except my car is a dart sport 360.

I went with the PST 16:1 with the adapter. I think it is fine, this is my first car with manual - so it does take getting use to. I've embarrassed myself parking but I am getting better - need more room

Good Morning cudajames, I took your advice on the manual steering gear. Got mine from Jegs. I broke the Volare's PS belt while racing and left it off. Certainly "Armstrong" steering. The manual gearbox on the lighter Barracuda should be much better.
Probably a bad idea but, I'm debating an initial reuse of the 273 exhaust manifolds just to see the difference (and be cheap). They dump into sidepipes after about 3 feet.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of headers ,I am curious to know who has installed hookers and how did they fit ?
They will be going into my 64 Barracuda with a 360 and automatic with manual steering.
As far as Doug's and TTI's ,I have read some of your posts, so I know where they stand , next would be looking for the best deal.
Looking for chassis exit as I will not be using fender well.
How radical is your engine. For my money- unless you have a high rpm motor- you are better off with stock manifolds. May cost you some horse power over 5000 rpm, but may even give you more low end torque for a street ride. Less problems with leaks, and definitely cheaper....

Cheaper for sure, and easier, too. But headers will give you extra power everywhere, not just up top. And it will do so on a highly modified engine and also on an otherwise completely stock engine.

I have Sanderson dd9 shorty headers on my column shift 66 Barracuda

these were on my 273 and now on the 408. Drivers side required me to remove the steering column for fitmen. From there no problems
I talked to Sanderson today, they stopped making the DD-9s...

Interesting - did you talk to them about headers for your car? Another member just bought headers, maybe not dd9s for his 66 fish

Yes i asked for DD9s for my Dart and they said that the DD9 has been discontinued. So im looking at the DD8s as a possible fit. Nice thing about Sanderson is they post all the dimensions of there headers on there website

I ordered a pair of DD9's through summit on Thursday after reading your post. I ordered the plain as I figured they probably had a few left versus the ceramic coated. I have a tracking # and I hope to get them in the next week or 2. You might still be able to get them if you act fast.

Thanks, i will give it a try

Did you get the DD9's that you ordered from Summit?

I think it is pretty awesome for a smaller company to sell on summit. I am very happy with my sanderson's on two different motors; 273 and a 408. Keep us updated as you go through this process

Yes please. Looks like I'm about to get an unexpected $1200.00, so Sandersons and a better rear axle gear ratio.

I just ordered some DD9s from summit. we will see what happens...

I'm looking to put a set of headers on a 67 barracuda with sidepipes was wondering if you know if they would work for that?

Dallas Dean
Sanderson DD9 Headers are for 1963-1966 A Bodies only. Probably won't fit a 1967 B-Cuda. You will have to search for your year.
Dave

@Dallas Dean With the 67 and up abodies there is a little more engine compartment space and several more options on headers. I am not an expert on sidepipes, but I would imagine they can work with any manifold/header

My order went in on 2/27 with a ship date of 3/26. Fast forward to 2 days ago and seeing the UPS shipment tracking # they sent not doing anything I called Summit. Summit re-issued the order and said they contacted the manufacturer and sent another update for shipment by 5/1. At this point I just have to see how this plays out. Will post another update whenever I see the order actually in shipment to me.

Bill

I have a feeling it could work out that way, but with no shows scheduled and me working on other aspects of the car, I have time to wait it out and see.

I have a feeling we won't get these...

The facts are that more and more companies are discontinuing slower moving, unprofitable parts. As the consumer group gets older and fewer cars are being rebuilt, their inventory is diminishing down to zero. Sanderson said they are discontinued, meaning they will not be making anymore. Summit lists hundreds of thousands of parts and they have not caught up to this yet.

If you really want DD9 headers:
Keep looking, maybe there's a set in a warehouse somewhere.
Put a wanted ad on FABO and maybe Ebay. Somebody probably has some they're not using.
Contact Sanderson and see if they might make one last group buy if they had enough preorders.
Tough times coming.
