So I stabbed a new 318 in my 74 Duster and got it all hooked up, but it doesn't crank or fire. It does turn over by jumping the solenoid. Neutral safety switch is hooked up.

Does the entire dash gauges need to be hooked up to get it to start? I'm thinking only the ammeter?

thoughts? Any threads that will walk you through this?

door buzzer?

Im no electrical expert but I think you'd be good with key switch and ammeter

Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. Isnt the buzzer supposed to come on when the door is open and key in? Mine doesn't....

Is the neutral start switch hooked up at the tranny and the solenoid? I would mount the dash as it needs to be grounded. Kim

The replies above are good. However, make sure you have a way to monitor temp and oil pressure!!!!!

You don't need a dash to drive the car, you just need all the wires hooked up correctly. I don't have a dash in my Duster and I drive it all the time. I removed the entire wiring harness as well as the factory dash. I just have a digital display and a head light switch.

I drove my 72 without a wiring harness at all (due to the original harness being all burned up).
Made it tricky cuz I had no brakes lights so I had to keep off the main streets.

I just hot wired it to the relay and used an MSD box and a one wire alt.

Just leave it disconnected. For that matter, why does it need oil or coolant? Just bust it off. It'll be fine.
