Stop in for a cup of coffee

Once you are wired up, use continuity checks to be sure the key switch does what its supposed to.
Safer than testing it live.

disconnect the neg, and to be safer, positive too at the battery.
With a battery powered circuit checker or a multimeter set to resistance.
1. Clip one lead to the battery wire, and the other lead to the ballast resistor or backprobe the terminal.
a. Key off, check the reading. Should be zero. (no light or buzzer if continuity tester)
b. Key in run, check the reading.
c. Key in start, check the reading
d. key in accessory - just for completeness. check the reading

2, Clip or back probe the second lead to the coil side of the resistor.
a. Key off, check the reading. Should be zero. (no light or buzzer if continuity tester)
b. Key in run, check the reading.
c. Key in start, check the reading
d. key in accessory - just for completeness.
