Well the 72 Swinger is out of storage. Last summer the transmission started to slip, especially when warm. I plan on having it rebuilt. I am also throwing around the idea of doing it myself. I have never done a 727 but did do my dad's 4L60e. There is a local shop who I like the owner. I am gonna ask him first. I am still working and will continue to because I work at a hospital.

My question is what are suggestions for torque converter? It's a 360 with comp 262 cam. 8.25 with 3.21 gears. 245/45/17 tire. Has a stock converter in it now. Strictly a street car that does see the highway. Looking for recommendations of brand and type. Thanks.

Rebuild it yourself. It's $120 for the rebuild kit. Put a transgo stage 2 shift kit in there while you're at it for another $70.. it's not what you think it's not going to make the gears bang. It's just going to have a more responsive shift..
Rebuilding that transmission is easier than falling out of bed..

Rebuild it yourself very easy, converter you'll get infinity amount of answers but i have a hughes 2,500 stall behind my big block and it works great!
It's tight enough for long distance cruising and flashes to 3,000 when launching.

4L60e is probably more complicated than the 727. Also there are some very good rebuild books to put the 727 together. Also youtube has some videos of assembly/disassembly.

That's one thing I don't know is what has been done to it before I bought it. It shifts pretty well right now. I am maybe thinking of having the local transmission shop look at valve body to sort it out.

We used to take our transmissions to a local shop until they kept frying, i taught myself how to rebuild them and I've been beating the snot out of them since and they last.

I believe there are several members here who are well versed in the torqueflites (727/904). You should reach out and ssk fir their guidance. I think One member is the author of one of the rebuild manual for the 727. Voetem?

first things first don't be scared of that transmission whatsoever it's so simple it's not even funny. If there's something in that valve body it's easy to take off and just sit on your bench and clean out. But the real deal it's just completely rebuilding the transmission with a simple rebuild kit. Then you're off and gone with a new transmission that you probably won't worry about for the rest of the time you own the car....

You just tell me to go ahead and I'll leave you a lengthy post here walking you through the entire process but I warn you it will be voice commanded and I'm not going to go back and correct everything LOL...

If you decide to do it yourself I would highly recommend Tom Hand's (VOETOM on this site) guide book for servicing Tourqeflites.

I have a video that walks you thru the rebuilding of a 727.....so simple even people on FABO can do it....pm me your email address.....

I have the book already but I have only glanced at it. I will read a couple times before I start.

If it was mine, I'd adjust the bands, put in a new filter, check the fluid level in neutral, and road test.

Sometimes a "lot" isn't very much and sometimes a "little" is tons. So when it comes to automatics, there's pictures and there's measurements.

I decided I will try the rebuild myself route. I have the car up on ramps. Might build some blocking to get it a little higher. How much clearance is needed to get out from under car? As far as kits I was looking at this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-A727...ance-Alto-Red-Eagle-Deluxe-71-On/370629590494

Its a red alto kit. Would this be better or is a standard kit all I need. Will need to start looking for torque converter also. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated. Has anyone had luck getting one rebuilt?

I rebuilt my 904 and it was the first time I had ever rebuilt a trans. Like everyone says its pretty easy. The hardest part for me was pulling the pump. I didn't have a pump "puller". I used some threaded rod about 2' long and put a 5lb bench press wt on there along with some washers and nuts so it wouldn't come off, and used that as a slide puller and the pump came right out.
Good luck!
