70 challenger 318 weird noise camshaft area need advice

One rocker or all on one side?
 
Also on tear down notice where the notches are in the rocker shaft.
 
Pull the rocker shaft first and then the pushrods on that side, before pulling the intake. Look for a bent one.
 
If the cam wiped a lobe there is a lot of metal in the oil and it has been pumped throughout the engine. Time for a rebuild.
 
Do the check for a knock by pulling one plug at a time. That pushrod may be telling you something too.
 
I had rod knock on my 318. I tried pulling the plugs one by one and I really couldn't tell the difference. I ended up pulling the oil pan off and sure enough I had spun a rod bearing. So bad in fact the crankshaft isn't savable. I was honestly shocked it hadn't seized first.

The pushrod may have punched through the lifter cup.

Been there, seen that........
