Insure or not

Is this a trick question??? Do you plan on driving the car legally? Do you want the car covered in case something happens to it?

Do people really only drive their cars to car shows?

Well thanksssssss guys after reading all your thoughts,I will go with Hagerty once again, they are cheep for sure.tanks a bunch.

Glad to hear it, I'm of the opinion of others here, to hell with the shows lol I want to drive my Mopar! In fact just this Sunday I took a wonderful drive on twisty mountain roads through the Poudre and Rist Canyon areas near where I live, definitely going to be doing that on a regular basis. Driving my Duster is my therapy lol.

I have Hagerty as well btw on my 70 Duster, I have year-round driving coverage (because I drive it any chance I get as long as there isn't lots of snow on the ground) with the car valued at $20,000 (!!!) and also has motorsports coverage so I'm covered when I go to track days at a local road course. About $800/year so not exactly cheap but the benefits are SO worth it. God forbid I total the car either on the street or track (NOT drag strip), they'll give me the $20k AND let me keep the car! Pretty sweet deal IMO.

I suppose if one needs validation of their car, going to car shows as a primary reason to have the car helps the car owner feel secure.

I have my 1973 Dart Sport 340 full insurance year round for $20,000 and pay $265 for the year through Hagerty. I only go to car shows when I am not driving my Mopar.

In the States "no insurance" will get the tag pulled and your license pulled unless you file an "Off road" affidavit, but you still have to surrender the tag.

not so here . ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I would insure it antway, what if u had a fire ?

Don't be "that guy" OP. I am sure you have worked hard to enjoy the car so run the wheels off it. I am actually seeing more muscle cars by themselves here lately. It tells me people want to drive them and show them as well....

That and now people can take them out with less anxiety of someone hitting them with the lesser amount of traffic on the road

Go enjoy it. Trust me. Just as many people you don't know will see it and appreciate your work. I haven't thought about your input but that is probably an accurate statement....

i switch between regular insurance and storage insurance on my duster
all it takes is one call to my insurance agent and one click on his end to swap it over

I use to do this, until I got a notice from the county clerk, or the state, don't remember for sure, saying that they were going to cancel my plates if I couldn't show that the car was insured. I guess in Colorado having it on "storage" in the off months doesn't count as being insured. Now I just pay it all year, cause these days I'll take it out anytime of year as long as the roads are dry and free from salt/sand.

Insurance with Hagerty is cheap IMO. I also just put full stated value coverage on my 95 Cummins Ram pickup. I hardly ever drive it and mainly just local.. They had a hard time figuring its value, but the little girl there and I agreed real easy. Value it at $5000 full coverage and I am happy. Would I sell it for that? no, but I am happy!! Costs me I believe it was $180a yr and not $600!! Local ins. co. gave me ONLY liability and charged stupid for that!!

Be careful here... "stated value" is not the same as "agreed value". Agreed is much better coverage (and tends to cost more) since that is what you get a check for in the event of a total loss, period.

Lol covid 19/carshows will not be the determining factor whether I drive it or not this year. Its insured year round with minimal insurance in off season.

Maybe one of the few joys today, is being able to drive thru our countryside, see no one, come close to no one, just enjoy the old car.

Just payed my insurance on mine. Collector insurance. Thinking there won't be any car shows this summer, but when weather warms up, I want to organize a cruise for our car club(about 20 members). Meet somewhere, stay in our cars and wave to each other go for a short cruise, then each go our separate ways.
