My Dart Swinger Project!

-
Good Lord lookit that body rot. It's been a long time since I have seen holes I can fit my hands through. Out here in west Texas they throw these trucks away because they are worn out not rusted out.
Yea that truck is next on my list when the dart is running. I got it fixed enough to pass inspection the suspension was shot I replaced all that. I will do the body when I'm driving the dart and have a extra vehicle to drive to work :steering:

In 76 ? Geez that that was only 4 or 5 years old then. That's nuts man.
My uncle bought a 70 Duster new, 4 years later with 40,000 miles on it, drove it to the junkyard, the rear spring hanger went thru the trunk.

Good lord I was always under the impression that older cars had better steel and that's why newer ones rust so much easier. Maybe i was wrong.

Older cars the big three did not do hardly any corrosion protection, plus it snowed alot more back then, thus more salt on the roads.

Heres my 1994 silverado I bought special order new. Still original paint. Starting to fade and peel, but not one rust spot other than a light coat of surface rust on the frame

Still clean, but I bet you cannot go to any junkyard and buy and engine for $300 that they will pull and put in the bed of your truck.
We have plenty of power trains here, rust kills the body's so bad I refuse to drive my Ram 3500 in the winter.

Your correct. The trucks all have 300-400K on them when they hit the wrecking yards. Clean body, shot drivetrains.

Got quite a bit accomplished with my floor pans today I started a thread for the repairs but I will put it here too I hope I got these videos in the right order.

Ok got some work done today. Finished up the rear pan. Got some rust under the seat cut out and patched up and got about halfway thru the foot board area and ran out of wire. Lol go figured I was so close to being done too. I also got the front passenger side floor pan cut out that was the old patch i put in close to 20 years ago. I didnt have a welder back then I used pop rivets and silicone haha

Haha I know right the ole lumina seen better days. I have to say it was a good car for me my wife and I both drove it for many years my grandfather bought it new in like 95 or 95 and he drove it until like 2007 when he lost his license and he sold it to me since he couldnt drive anymore. And we drove it from like 07 to 2017 (maybe 18) it dont need much we just upgraded and i never could sell it and it sat for 3 years I wasnt about to put money into it to fix and noone would buy it I had it priced for 150 bucks at one point and noone bought it I may strip it down and try to sell some parts off it it's got a good motor transmission the brakes are shot i replaced one line and another busted lol typical "rust belt" issues

Putting in more work today got the rearend back together new carrier and axle bearings now I just gotta figure out how to set the backlash and get her on the car.

Backlash is going to be set by your shims. On either side of the carrier bearings. I'm not sure what the spec is but that will set your backlash.

Wow I was just looking thru some old pictures of when I first started its has came a long way.

Quick update. Cant really call it progress lol. I ordered my pistons this week hopefully gonna drop the engine off at the machinist on Thursday. I called and he said bring it on in.
Got the fuel tank dropped this morning as expected the rust in the spare tire area was worse that I thought and the spare tire/fuel tank hanger broke off. I ordered the replacement hanger this morning from summit. Luckily they had it everywhere else is sold out. I'm gonna replace the bottom of the trunk floor in similar fashion to the floor board and then install the hanger. That was a part I didnt want to fab myself and it was only 32 bucks so I said the heck with it and just bought it. I also ordered all my new fuel lines this week hopefully it will be here soon and and can start piecing it back together. While the tank is out I'm gonna clean the underside and paint the bottom of the car. I'm gonna use the same gloss black I used on the inner fenders I think it will look pretty good. I have to order new j bolts, sending unit gasket, and filler neck grommet. I will probably do that tonight.
