Finally Some Pictures of my 1969 Dodge Dart GT

-
What a great day. I can see the finish line in the near distance now. I am not going to try and comment too much on these photos. I just had to share.

We just had to pull it out in the sunlight so I could really get a look at it. Let's just say, that I am not disappointed in the color choice. There are still a lot of little things left to get through. If you look closely you can tell that the windshield is not in yet. The back seat of the interior is not done. Chasing a couple of gremlins. Chasing a few leaks. Touching up a couple spots. And the tail stripe will go on last. Hopefully my next update on this (might still be another month), will be the day I finally am able to hit the street.

If all goes according to plan, I will be hitting the street with my ride next Friday. Went through all final check-offs yesterday and pointed out a few remaining issues that need to be addressed (none serious). Also had a chance to see the car with the custom stripe from challengergary installed on the car. I am glad I decided to go with the stripe. It breaks up the orange nicely and really adds to the look of the back end of the car, particularly matched up with the tail panel.

You think those pis are nice? Well these will blow your mind. This was a separate thread I started to show the craziest part of the project. These pics were not in this build thread.

They Said It Can't Be Done...Or Don't Even Try
You did a tremendous job. Super excellent. I love the fact that you replaced the quarters. I wish I would have done that now, but hey if they give trouble they will be replaced. Thanks for the pics, I desperately needed pics of the rear regulators installed and your pics are just what the Dr ordered. I love the color and the whole car is executed perfectly. Have fun with it and drive as much as you can. Thanks again.

So it is finally time to get on with my restomod project. I am going to turn the car over to a restoration shop in Deltaville, VA called Rusteez Nuts Restorations. They were recommended to me by FABO member 68VAHCODE. After meeting and talking to the owner for a long time, I was sold.

Today I decided to start stripping the interior. This first picture is the driver's floor pan. It is really not as bad as it looks (mostly just surface rust). The thing in the middle of the floor is a mounting bracket for a left foot accelerator (a necessity for me to drive due to my Army injury)

IMG_1024_zps6abe2cb1.jpg

The passenger side floor pan is another story. There is one obvious hole. This is going to be replaced.

IMG_1028_zps67ffad59.jpg

The entire front floor and under the seats.

IMG_1031_zpsaf6644fb.jpg

Both rear floor pans are in this condition. They look very good.

IMG_1030_zps8afb0e95.jpg

The area under the rear seat also looked very good.

Since the interior is out, I decided to go ahead and make the floor shift conversion. Here the brackets are mocked up using the template from Redfish. Unfortunately I did not get them mounted yet because our welder was not up to the task. I plan to complete the swap before finishing the tear down.

All I can really recommend at this point is to either send Redfish a PM on FABO. Or you could post a thread to the forums here and see if anyone has the measurements or the template. If I still had the one I used, I would gladly send it to you, but I think it went in the trash after I used it.

Hi do you still have the template to install the shifter

I used these measurements to make my template. They are 180* from each other...
sorry, I should have rotated my picture ;-)

Nice ride. I just recently picked up a 69 Dart GT. Was trying to figure out if I wanted to keep the side trim or not, but I'm thinking I'm gonna get rid of it after seeing yours. Beautiful Car!!!

Topher,

check my build.

I also removed my side trim.

Been looking for that. Need to add new brackets to a new floor pan 4 my kids cuda. Old brackets were sawed off by prev owner. Nice dart. Lots of work.

Beautiful!

So I finally got some pictures loaded onto my computer so that I could share them with the forum. Going to try to share some basic pics and then show some of the biggest problems I will have to deal with. At least we got the car running, but now I am in the process of replacing everything from the fuel pump back to the fuel tank. The previous owner had let the car sit for far too long. Gas was leaking out of a whole bunch of pin holes in the tank. So I am replacing everything (tank, straps, sending unit, etc.). Then I should be able to get the car on the road. This will probably be a slow process so I am going to make the car at least serviceable to drive in the meantime.

Some bad rust where the vinyl top split. I plan to ditch the vinyl top all together.

The only really troublesome hole.

The worst spot of rust on any fender. Other smaller spots at fender corners, but the rocker panels are intact.

Worst door spot inside.
Good lookin Dart, I’d attend to that rust around the sail panel and roof asap, at least remove the loose stuff and temporarily coat it for the time being. Living up here in the rust belt I know how it can quickly progress. Thanks for posting photos, it’s got great potential!

Just an FYI, I finished this car about four years ago. Took care of that rust and a lot more. It was a much more involved project than I originally anticipated. You can see it in my signature pic. Thanks.

You’ve brought it back to perfection!

Cool car. My brother built a 68 Dart. Darn good looking body style. I still have the original 273 out of it in my garage. He put a 360 in its place.
