Yard Sale

Well, playing card are really what you want to use. I didnt have and around the house, ended up using a couple of cereal boxes.

Getting all kinds of stuff done on my projects during this downtime. I’m just finishing up repairing my off-road Crown Victoria that was hit while parked in the street. Ive put my mini- bike back together and even painted the wheels on the valiant!
I’ve been collecting parts to build a stock style replacement engine to replace my current mill. Just looking for something that’s clean and efficient for running around town. Hell, I even called up PTC converters and got a one coming. I have a fresh 360 that I need to swap pistons out for some flattops. I have the Kb190s with the rings gapped for nitrous that are coming out and going on the shelf. Those KB’s were not going to play nice with the speed master heads. So, I’m going to spend my Sunday playing with spiro locks and setting ring gaps.

Just for fun, here’s a pic of my sucking less brown Vic and my baby mini bike. I’m starting to get loopy, I need to get out and about!

Nice! I love the look of all the Gambler cars!
Sucks it got hit in the street. I've had 2 vehicles hit parked in the street in front of my house in Minneapolis, Morons!

I don’t normally share these new part pictures, but for some reason I’m super stoked that my new 9.5 PTC converter just showed up on my doorstep. Truth be told, this is my 1st converter that wasn’t off the shelf! Just waiting on a few odds and ends to finish assembling the long block.
I need to finish up a couple of projects on my other car to clear a spot, at that point can start planning the engine swap.

Hey Gearhed73 -
Cool build!
Reading your thread sounds like you've been all over SoCal with your parts chasing.
Where abouts in SoCal are you based?

I live in Huntington Beach. I’m always looking for parts and more toys. This shelter in place stuff has given my done extra time to get my stuff dialed.

Waiting on some odds and ends so I can button up the engine. Decided to build a small acceleration baffle for my new budget pan I picked up from summit racing. Took a few pictures along the way. The trimming and adjusting around the pickup tube probably took the most time. This is a down and dirty afternoon project that could be pulled off 1/2 dozen different ways.

Wanted to finish this up pretty quick, a box of goodies came in for the short block. Still waiting on a handful of parts, Ill basically have a complete engine to install in place of the 318. I really want this to be as smooth swap. I really enjoy this car, and its really fun to drive. However, I'm REALLY looking forward to a power bump and more converter.

Ill take the template to work with me so I can scan it, I can email it over.

Set of adjustable rockers came in yesterday, outside of needing a proper cleaning they look to be in good condition.

Decided to pull the hurt 318 before I had to start pushing it around. It has been tricky with time.. I’ve been busier that last few weeks than I have been all year. However, decided to get it going last weekend.

I have been collecting parts over the past few months. Per usual, I’ll need to make a couple more parts runs before it’s all over. Luckily classic industries is just down the street, and I also have a couple good local parts stores.
Check the difference between my 12”factory converter and my new 9.5 PTC. This is my 1st non off the shelf converter I’ve bought.

While waiting on my summit racing order to show up I decided to swap my fuel sending unit. I’ve replaced my stock, single 5/16 unit with a 3/8 with a return line. I’m going to run a -6 fuel feed line and use my existing 5/16 as a return from my Holley bypass fuel regulator. If you notice in the 2nd picture, the fuel float has fuel in it. Real PIA, always sunk and never really knew how much fuel I had!

If I can get a couple items daily completed I’ll be there soon. Besides, still waiting on my new carb to get in. I got the converter bolted up, needed to upgrade the bolts to 7/16. ARP filled the Bill nicely. Also started running the new -6 fuel line and getting the original 5/16 plumed into the return side of sending unit.

Box on the porch this morning. My new carb showed up. Nice, shiny Edelbrock AVS... not really. That is going in the shelf. Decided on a 750 Brawler. Should have enough parts to keep me busy this weekend.

Finished running all the fuel line under the car and to the pump. Started going from pump to the regulator. I’m using the bigger carter mechanic fuel pump, I forget the pn.. but I do know that I need the regulator to keep it in check. I also started fooling with getting the carb linkage sorted out.

Had to retrace my steps today.. I went to pre-oil this thing and soon as pressure came up I had some leakage from the filter area. I knew right away what I missed. I didn’t put the gasket between the filter adapter and the block! I handled that business and continued with the oiling.
Also decided to reset my FBO timing limiter plate in my distributor. I had it set at 16 degrees and wanted to change it to 10. I took some picture along the way.

Was thinking I’d have more time this weekend to mess around with the car. Ended up only being this evening. I ordered the generic finned valve covers, got them prepped and installed. Also dropped my distributor in and ran the wires. As I have as working with the distributor I noticed the o-ring was pretty hard and not sealing at all. Would not be surprised if that was the cause of my previous leak. I swapped it out and pushed forward. I’m current down to a short list, I need a thermostat housing and a dipstick tube and should be good to fire it.

It lives! Per usual it took longer than I expected. I have been very busy around the hangar, we have been flying a lot. Anyway, it’s all together and running/ driving. I still have a short list of items that need to be addressed. However, have done an oil and filter swap, readjusted valves and ballparked the carb, timing is @25 initial and 35 total.
My biggest item to address is the radiator. Since this is an early radiator and the 360 is later I had to do some monkey motion with the lower hose. No leaks and still does a fine job of keeping it cool. I’m probably going to have to swap radiators at some point.

I ordered up some 002/003 super stock springs for the back. Was tired of it sagging out so hard. Also need to keep the tires planted. I’ve been keeping a cap on the max rpm ( least until I get few more miles on it) but even with that it’ll get loose going down the road when I lean on it.

Carved out some time to finish up the swap. spring swap was very straight forward. The only detour were the spring plates. When I originally installed the 8.8, I used aftermarket spring plates with original valiant shock mounts welded to them. They were just a tad to long.. pushed aft if you will. So while I had everything blown apart I cut them back off and shortened the spring plate and stuck it all back together. Everything is nice and happy with no binding now. I’m going to bring the front ride height down some too, I’ve lost weight over the nose and it was showing.
