What Am I Missing?

"Contact The Seller" button wouldn't work the first time I tried. It does now. I see it's Mc Cormack Racing, which last I heard, was reputable. I emailed them to see if the price is correct for two NEW wheels.

Maybe just older stock that they have. Also, wheel prices have gone up lately, well at least the ones I want have. In the last couple of months they have had a 25 percent increase.

Pro Stars are nice, but expensive. -- Was on it, when I bought it. --

McCormack Racing got back to me today:

"yes we are liquidated our Welds, Weld has got outrageous with the price of these wheels and we are just clearing out our paid for inventory rather than get stuck with a bunch of over priced wheels
Thank you,

McCormack Racing"

I'm not ready for the fronts yet, but they're $440 for a pair also (15 X 4). Just ordered them too!

Interesting , I have bought all my prostars from them , they always beat jegs and summit . Wheels are going out of site pricewise , like most other hotrod parts.
I think thats why they are all pushing the cast look-a-likes now , which are heavier . Real prostars may go outa site one of these days , strong enough for most street duty and
lite weight ! .

I'm 60, and want an "old school" wheel like Prostars for my Duster project, which I'm building as a late 70's, early 80's street/strip car. I would've bought em used, but they're hard to find. I bought used polished Centerline's for my 87 Mustang project. You'd have to look pretty close to see that they're not new.
Like you, I want a light wheel. I'm a weight fanatic.
I probably won't buy any more wheels in my lifetime, I don't plan any more projects, I have plenty to do (and limited cash) on the two cars I have! I can't even imagine buying some of the unbelievably high priced wheels I see out there now. I don't see any that I like anyhow.

So, I got the wheels. Wednesday, actually. Fast.
I tried one on the back, to check fit. It wouldn't go on. I checked the wheel bolt pattern. All good.
I checked the bolt pattern on the FORD 9" rear that is sitting in place, in my Duster. IT'S 4.75!! GM pattern!! Someone, in this rear axle's history put axles in with a GM pattern! I never thought to check it. Why would I? It's a Ford axle!
So, I called McCormack. I figured I'd have to eat the return shipping, and have them send me 4.75" wheels. The very nice lady (Karen) told me they don't have the 4.75 wheel, let alone at the sale price.
So, I can return them and eat the shipping. Then, order them from Jeg's, or Summit for $307 each! (McCormack's $220 each) It's starting to get expensive!
What I'm going to do: keep the wheels I have and redrill the drums and axles. I don't think I have the right tools to do it myself, so I'll take them to a shop. I need my driveshaft shortened, so I'll take that too.

Ain't it always something?

And, to hijack my own thread, the fronts will be another story. I have 9" drums w/ the 4" pattern. I guess I have to convert to discs to get the 4.5 pattern. It's tempting to see what 10" drums w/ the 4.5 pattern would work. It ain't gonna be a road racer. Raced a 3900# Road Runner (116 mph) that had 10" drums (lighter than 11", cheaper than discs) and never had a stopping issue.

Typical hotrodding !! Mostly have to modify everything !

Brakes are gm 9.5. Somebody must’ve welded gm axle ends onto the 9 inch rear so that the backing plates bolted on.
So now I’ll have a 9 inch Ford with GM brakes and a Ford/Mopar wheel pattern. What a mess.

The same thing just happened to a friend of mine. He had a 66 Dodge Coronett with eight and three-quarter in it. He bought new alloy axles For is 66 rear end only to find out when he pulled the old axles out they were longer. Somebody had put a 71B body rear end in the car. Now he’s got axles too short I had to go out and buy a new axle housing to match his new axles.

Being that I'm getting to be an old fart, I keep a record things that occur as I build this thing, to combat the CRS. It's as much for me as it is for the next poor slob that owns it!

Dont sound right to me , they have already aquired and paid for their wheels , why would a price increase from weld , change what they have in them ?
Jegs and summit are making more $$ off of the cast wheels , which are a fair bit heavier ---------most are chinese copies I think .

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. Bottom line; I got the price.
