Made a trade deal for a project car for my 14yr old son. It's a '70 Duster 318/904/7.25 car with power steering and factory air-conditioning. Originally an FF4 Light green car with Ivy Green interior. Should be a fun project! Gonna go with a 340/727/8.25 drivetrain since it's what I have laying around to work with. What do you guys think?

He'll have a Hoot! So will you.

Its great to have a project like this to work on together. He'll learn more than just wrenching. Good luck to the both of you.

And don't forget the pics, otherwise it didn't happen.:usflag:

Very nice Dad, your son will remember this forever.

He will be able to share this story with his children someday.

Some of the best times of my life were spent working on my Duster with my old man. I wish you lads the same.

Nice, and Thank You!

I was in the grocery store friday and heard a guy telling his friend he was looking for a car for his son. The friend said "Get him something small and fuel efficient." I was sickened.

I hope you and your son enjoy your project. I am fortunate to have 3 sons who are all in to Mopars, and we have a lot of fun together!

Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun with the build and family bonding to boot.
Cudos to you and your son!

My dad did the same for me (70 duster and all). 30 years later I'm so glad he did. Not sure if when you said "what do you guys think" you were inviting opinions...but if you can salvage the 904 I'd go that route. Lower gears through 1 & 2 and smaller/lighter. But maybe your 727 is already rebuilt and waiting. So pumped for you guys!

AWESOME! Wow, I bought my first car (a '72 Duster) off my Dad when I was 14 also. 318 2bbl, 904, 2.76 gears, power steering and A/C car. You bring back memories :)

FF4 is a pretty color when it is fresh and not all faded out.

My son is very excited about the car, as any young red-blooded American would be! Currently, he's liking the idea of making it a '70 340 clone back in the factory color. I'd like to make it a nice car that can be driven year around. Working AC and all!

340 Duster for his first car? Make sure its got disk brakes! Keep the 904.
My first 'real' car (not a 2cyl Honda...) was a 340 '65 Barracuda. Taught me a few lessons...
