I basically cut new threads 1/2 way in the nut. Once I found what was happening I got the thread file and fixed the shaft. I then coated everything in tap majic and tried to thread the nut on backward to fix it after a few turns on and off I figured I would stop before I damaged the shaft. I figured getting a new nut at this point would cost less in the end.
What if you turned the nut upside down and start it on the shaft? Would it not have straightened the threads enough to work? At least you'll get it back up and running.
