1985 Chrysler Laser Parts - LOCK - 4054962

I just ordered mine and I will be picking it up at a Mopar dealer in PA. The part number is 4054962, but if you search their website for that part, it won’t find it. I Googled the part number with “Chrysler” behind it and a bunch of links came up, one of which was this source. This is a discontinued part, or so many websites say. I plan on installing it in my 1967 Barracuda convertible. My key cylinder broke before and I had to reach into the trunk after taking the back seat out and reaching in with about 3 feet of ratchet extensions to open it then. This latch opens when it gets 12 volts + to it. I plan on putting in a momentary contact switch in the glove box to activate it, even when the key is off. They say this is a direct bolt-in conversion, with the addition of a power line and switch.

You can also buy them out of later model mopars in the junkyard. That is where I got mine. Don’t remember which one work however.

My advice...........Put the switch somewhere besides the glove box. The trunk is fairly secure at various outings, and the first place a young (or old) hoolum will look-----is in the glove box. Great idea, tho..........

I use ones off C bodys. Early to mid 70's newport, imperial etc. They bolt right in and work great.
I seem to remember there were some newer ones that were also a direct bolt in but they were made partially of plastic. I like the older ones, they are all metal.

A convertible doesn't lend itself to security no matter where you place that switch, but a friend of mine uses another foot activated dimmer switch.

Very cool thanks for the part number I have considered doing this. I found a popper solenoid on Ebay but this would he alot easier and cleaner.

I control mine via key pad on drivers door. I can lock, unlock doors, and unlock trunk. I also have a trunk button inside the car.

Will this also fit the early A bodies?

One button install I have seen here... Owner added a factory remote/interior hood pull under dash near fuse box. Homemade bracket added to right side of that held the truck release button with factory bezel. Neither hidden by a glove box door but,, both in the same location was pretty neat.
That factory button and bezel originally mounted on left side of glove box. That may not work in a 67. Not only does it have a paper glove box but there's moving hinge and door stop arm behind the left side. I'm not sure how much space is available. Don't want to chaff wires.

They cancelled my order without explanation. It must be out of stock with them too.

Guess I’ll try the junkyards.

You might get latch, button, bezel, wiring, the works for about the same 40 bucks from a seller here. Good luck

I bought mine from a member here. All I had to do was run a wire from a new power source center I installed, I bought a momentary switch, ran the new wire, from the new source to the switch, and from the switch to the elec latch.
I ran the wire down driver kick panel, and along the drivers side with the tail light wiring. Mounted the latch. Just be sure you adjust it properly. I hid the switch under the dash. Not a hard to do job at all. Works for me.
