Was wondering if there is a way to know what was the last dodge demon built in 1972 or in general since 1972 was the last year. I have a demon 340 built on July 28 1972 and wanted to know if it was the last demon or at least the last 340 demon built. Or if it was built on the last production date if anyone knows what day that was? Thanks let me know!

This can get complicated.

Until the end of the 1970 model year, the typical model year ran from August 1st to July 31.

For the 1972 model year they started earlier, approximately the 2nd week of July & went over & beyond a typical model year rage at least a week into the 'second' August.

So 14 months involved instead of the former 12.

The cars were not built in VIN order, so going by the highest possible VIN is out.

Starting towards the end of the 1972 a new Mylar door sticker was put into use that has a MDH code for Month Day Hour.

That date often does not agree with the date on fender tags & other documentation, that date is the SPD (scheduled production date)
The SPD is the date they HOPED to build the car when the order was first entered into the system.

So if your car has the new sticker with the MDH code, you would need to compare it to the stickers on all the other cars made like yours to see which one had the latest MDH.

Since no database for that exists & since many of the cars no longer exist, the original question is just impossible to answer.

Ok thanks!

On the fender tag, door sticker or both?

Photos of both would be awesome to see. :)

Fender tag has 802 and drivers door has 8 72. My vin number end with 337894, so I think that's number 337,894 car off the line.

The cars were not built in VIN order & they started at 100001 at each plant.

So you would have the 237894th VIN assigned for the 1972 model year at the Hamtramck plant.

(VINs from there exceeded 483000)

no, its 2B in the VIN
my 802 or August 02, would that be the beginning of the 72 year run or the end? My door decal only has the month and year on it. My doors are in my basement and I tried to take a picture earlier but I need to stand them up and get a good picture. I thought at first it was a 3 but the more I look, it looks like an 8.

For the record, looking at a build date absolutely does not determine model year.
Just because a car was built in August of a year doesn't mean it was the next model year newer.
Best example I can give is the Dodge Neon. Production began Nov 1993, they were launched Feb 1994 for the 1995 model year.
Can't tell you how many people have given me a wrong model year because they looked at a build date.
Might as well look at the date in the tail lamps.

I know you can't determine a model year by looking at the build date, old news. I am just curious at how they built them in the past. My ownership, fender tag and door sticker all say 72, so I think its safe to say its a 72.
