Harbor Freight jack stands recalled

Something we did in the old days (low budget, wrenching in a gravel driveway) was stack a pair of spare tires w/wheel under the car. In a worst case if the car drops those are going to stay under there and hold the car off the ground, off you.

The worst is cinder blocks - aka concrete blocks shaped like 8. Those can crush. Never use them. The only thing worse than that would be going under hte car with only a bumper jack - but Imma stop before I scare myself.

A good low budget safety block is a big chunk of solid log, as wide as it is tall. Working under cars - especially big heavy ones like Cadillacs - I never feel safe and those give a degree of positive backup.

Gotta go to the shop now and pick up my jack stands to return, I have six of them, four are under a car! Guess Ill replace them two at a time.
